View Full Version : Dog food question....
I have a 16 month old black lab female, she is not a hunting dog but very active. She is a little heavy (84lbs), vet wants to see her closer to 78lbs or so. We have cut back her portions a little so this should help.
We feed her IAMS large breed puppy, is this a decent food? We are just about to move out of the puppy food to adult, but thought I would check first.
Thanks,

I don't feed IAMS so I couldn't tell ya if it's good or not? I've gone through many different brands of food over the years and Nutrisource is working out well. Less piles to clean up and their energy is up. Keeping tabs on your dogs weight is real important, an overweight dog will not perform or live to it's potential and can lead to joint problems. Cutting down on portions will help, I had to cut my males portion down from 3c/day to 2 1/2 to keep his weight in check. It didn't take long to see the change in energy and build.

I totally agree with choice of NutriSource. My 15 yr old Springer is still hunting. I'm thinking of adding it to my menu as well.
Feed twice a day if you're not doing so already. Dog's less famished at meal time and sustains energy throughout the day, plus the cutback for dieting is easier on the dog over 2 meals than 1.
I feed her twice a day. Once in the morning at 5:45 and once again around 5:00 in the evening. She seems to have tons of energy and looks like she is losing some weight so I think we are on the right track.
I'll look into the dog food as well.
Thanks for the advice.
