Just interested to see to what level people have taken their dogs to obedience wise.

My dog is now almost 11 months old. I would say he is in the good odedience - I am usually boss category. I'm not even close to done though.

He is forced to sit before crossing through a doorway going outside and again coming back inside until I command him to go through. Same with his kennel, he doesn't come out until I say to even with the door open. I don't utilize a "stay" command. If I tell him to sit, or down (for lay down), I want him to stay there until I give a release command. Same with heel, here, and others. If I heel him, I want him there until I release him.

Heading to a force fetch seminar this weekend. Will start the training on that Monday.

I guess I'm eventually looking for the soldier. Whether I ever get there or not is another story.

I'm inline with you. I'd did much better before I got married and my wife's conflicting commands, feeding at the table........... I could go on, but you get the point.

To the extent of having a soldier..... don't take the fun out of it. But his lifeline in the field and in urban areas is that he listens.

I have a male and a female GSP. I would classify my male as extremely obedient. He's great in the house or in the field. He's one of those few and far between dogs, don't see many like him! He's been a pleasure to work with since day one.

My female can be..., well she is a female! LOL! In the field she's a real good listener and that's when her obedience shines through. But, in the house she can be, errr is the BOSS, she sometimes has that whatever attitude. She's a dominant dog, that's great in the field but in the house she can be tough to deal with at times. It's almost like she's to smart for her own good.

Just different dogs with different breeding. The male came from some pretty diverse breeding. Where my female came from straight forward hunting lines. Just different breeds with in the breed.

We have 2 -1 year old G.S.P.'s. There were litter mates. They are pretty good around the house.

One of the pups loves to jump his 2 paws up on you and stretch for affection. As I was trying to get him from jumping up. Found out that my 11 year old daughter thought it was fun to dance with him ( while he was stretching up ) when he was on his hind legs.

Not sure if I'm ever going to fix that now.

I have 2 ESSP females.
One is 9, the other 7.
I cheated. I bought "started" dogs, and I finished them.
I can't take much credit, but they sure turned out well.
