Hey, love the new forum!!
I have this trouble every year. Thought I'd post here and see what others are doing for gloves? I'm usually in and out of my shanty, jigging.....and running after tipups. Taking fish off the line, rebaiting, etc....my gloves ALWAYS get wet, then I end up not wearing them...then COLD hands. Is there a solution? What do you guys/gals where for protection on your hands ice fishing?
P.S. I've tried the neopreme (sp?) and do not like them....seems my hands get colder in them than they do without any gloves at all.
Thanks.
JJ
Got a good tip from my son who is a skiier.
Get those chemical handwarmers and put them on the back of your hand between the glove and skin. I use fingerless gloves if it is warm enough.
You just need an outside source of heat if your hand gets cold and if you take a small glass jar,(smaller the better because there is less oxygen in it) and put the handwarmers in them when you are done and still have some of the 10 hours life in them, you can get several days out of each one.
I use mittens when I set-up for drilling holes etc and change to gloves when I am fishing.

Seal skins. I bought a pair before pheasant season, they worked great straight through deer season(some days of cold rain) and will no doubt work great for ice fishing. Great dexterity, waterproof and warm enough, at least for me.

Get a towel and wipe them dry and then you can keep them warm in one of the hand mufflers with heat packs. I like to use the wool finger less gloves while jigging and if it gets cold I will put them in choppers.
I have a pair of mittens which are actually rubber or plastic on the outside and lined inside. they are easy to slip off when bringing in a fish.

For me personally, never could find a glove that was warm enough, dry enough, yet still gave me enough dexterity to fish. For icefishing, I finally gave up and now just use both JockaTherm mittens and those yellow freezer mittens. If not using a shanty or really cold, I'll usually throw a hand warmer in each. I like to get them in larger sizes so they are loose fitting and you can whip them off quickly. Then when I need to tend to something (bait, tip-up, change jig, I take them off and go bare handed. If your hands get cold you can count on good mitts to warm you back up.

I also use a pair of rubber coated "chopper" mittens. They work great because they are easy to take off fast and are water proof. When it get really cold the hand warmers fit nice inside.

I've about given up on gloves or mittens for ice fishing. Warm ones are too bulky, thin ones are not warm.. I use a muff with hand warmers in it, but usually just suffer with the cold. A dry towel helps a lot if you can remember to take one.
