Where I fish it is common to nip the heads on minnows and then stick them on a jig or hook for a better bite if its tough on the ice. Wondering if any other areas do this?

When jigging for perch through the ice, I always tip the jig with a minnow head.

Swedish Pimple and a chub head for one of the two rods at all times. Outfishes any other line in the water 2 to 1.

I do this often however I stick the whole minnow on first and then nip the body off so the whole thing is about 3/4 inch long. Those little heads are too slippery.

Everyplace I'm fishing where I will be jigging. In South Dakota we can use 4 lines. Most of the time I jigging two lines & have two dead lines with complete minnows. When I fish in Minnesota I jig fish with 1 line & dead line the other with a minnow.

Yep just 3 days ago in the boat on the detroit river.Lots of walleye.Cut the minnows in half if there big, makes no difference to the walleye. Also hook em in the tail instead of the head. They are harder for the fish to take off.

You guys are throwing away the wrong part! Toss the head and hook on the rest of the body. I've had luck with both ends, but I think I do better with the tail end.

As a man who has eaten an 8" raw dead herring, I can tell you eating the head was the toughest part. i think the fish feel the same way.
