Hi everyone
I'm new to walleye fishing and was wondering when, typically, is the walleye spawn. I've read and heard that June is the best time to fish for walleye. Is this the case?
I'm located in Northern Illinois (if that helps)
Thanx All & May you lines always be tight

Ours have already spawned. Anybody correct me if I am wrong, but it typically happens a few weeks after the ice is off and/or when the spawning water temps reach the 50 degree range. That being the case, spawning in the norther part of the US should happen in late April to mid May. They try to schedule the MN Opener to take place shortly after the spawn.

Typically spawn occurs in water approximately 44-48 degrees farenheit. A strong spawn will have this coincide with the proper moon phase and daylight cycle length.
Some fish are earlier/later than others. Males tend to arrive the earliest and stay the latest.
This year on the Fox Chain (northern Illinois) the walleyes started spawning around March 26th (47 degree water temp - Lake Marie) and I was still catching milting fish on April 22nd (56 degree water temp - Pistakee Lake).
