Wondering how many others use a gaff to pop a fish out. I seen the new trebel hook gaffs they have outl look pretty neat.

I use one if I tangle with a pout or keeper pike. It seems I use it more often as a means to get larger pike up the hole, I'll position the gaf as to hook him under the chin and pull him up the hole. Once I unhook them they get slid back into the water after a pic. I have the HT telescopic, single hook, no barb. Works well.

I have a buddy that makes his own treble hook gaff. All he did was take a very large treble hook and mount it inside the end of an crossbow bolt. Works great. We usually gaff if we are keeping as I've lost too many walleye trying to get them through the hole.

I use a single hook, homemade gaff and it works great. Don't know why anyone would want a treble hook gaff. Accident waiting to happen.

I guess we live life on the edge...still waiting for that accident to happen.

I'm glad you got my sarcasm. I was hoping I wasn't the only one that thought using a treble hook would get me a Darwin Award.

I have the gaff, do not use it all the time. All depends on how the walleyes are bitting ?? All of the smaller fish always go back.

Never. Although I have one (given to me by an old friend), I would rather lose one at the hole than to throw the old hooks at at fish. I practice a lot of catch and release, ecspecially larger fish. To each his own, but you'll never find me using one. Tight Lines

No problem catch and releasing with a gaff as long as you gaff them in the lower jaw.
