Okay what is your favorite go to ice lure ?? You know the one you start with every time you hit the ice ?? Mine is a small old jigging Rapala, Have not been able to find another one like it ?? It is black/gold but the gold seems different than all the other ones I have. This one has marks all over it now and the center hook has already been changed once !

For 'Eyes, Jigging Raps were always the "go-to". But the last couple of Years Fiskca's (sp?) have replaced them - kool colors ! Bob

Vibe-E's are my first choice for 'eyes, perch, crappie. Tipped Rat Finkee's are second if the bite's off. Some honorable mentions? Nils-Masters jigging/swimming minnows as well as jigging Raps. Swed pimps, and a sleeper, 1/4 oz Rattle Traps. The Traps make an excellent search bait when hole hopping community areas. The fish may not hit them, but will almost always at least sniff, which lets you know there are fish in the area.

Genze Worm on a dead rod, Do-jigger or Cleo for jigging. If that doesn't work I get into the BIG box of trick. lol Skeeter

Use the WALLEYE CENTRAL BUSINESS DIRECTORY "Skeeters Stuff" under marine supplies (boat cleaning supplies), it really does work.

For jigging two choices:

Cleo's, primarily maroon/copper

Super duper's (crappie/perch). They are getting hard to find but have a single small treble hook, good action/flutter and not alot of decision making for colors (silver or silver with red band on end)

Chubby Darter with a haili's dropper chain. It catches everything!

Just curious Auggie, those dropper chains seem a bit frail. How big an 'eye have you caught on the dropper rig. Are they stronger than they look?

I would have to agree with the #7 Firetiger Jigging Rap for walleye. Only after I heard so much success from the guides up on Little Bay De Noc, I rarely tip this bait with anything. I used to be an advocate of a tiny minnow head on the treble, but the walleye, when actively feeding, hit it regardless of it being tipped. It also saved time when the walleyes are working their way thru. If I hadn't tried it, I would have been skeptical myself, but only on a rare occassion will I add anything to my Jigging Rap.

I did modify the Rap: adding a split ring to the treble and clipping off the front and rear hooks. Those darn hooks would get caught on the edge of the hole under the ice and I lost a number of fish due to this. Tight Lines

On Erie, silver pimples/do jiggers with green or orange tape, and buckshot rattle spoons are my favorite.

Last year I Ice a 24 incher on it. I use it mostly for perch, but have done well with it on Crappies and Bluegills. If I'm going for walleye strictly I usually don't put on the dropper.

For eyes, I like Chubby Darters and the Jigging Raps. This year I have obtained both in the new glow colors, but haven't tried those yet.

For panfish, I like Genz Glo Worms tipped with maggots or waxworms.

For trout, I like flourescent green/pink ice jigs tipped with maggots.

For tipups, I like anything as long as its a lively minnow on a slip sinker.

Tight lines.

Have always used swedish pimples, vibee's and jigging raps with a piece of minnow. Last year I started using just a gold plated Lit'l Nitro's with green prism tape and a piece of minnow, they cleaned house compared to my usual lures. They come in so many color combos its making my head spin. I'll be broke by the time I get at least 1 of each.LOL
Found them when doing a search for vibee's.

The problem we have with Darters up here is that often we fish over 20' of water. How can these work effectively in this depth of water?

At Put-in-Bay, my "go-to" lure for the last 2 winters that we had ice (2004 and 2005) for walleyes was the Nils Master Baby shad. Color depends upon water clarity/color, but the dark green Perch pattern is hard to beat most days. My only complaint, which I aired out to the distributor is that the small diameter nose/tail hooks break off too often on our heavy fish. Lake Erie water temperature at Put-in-Bay 12/20/06= 38F Hoping for some winter eventually. Better late than never! Prime Time Ice Charters 419/285-2029
