Any word on the local ice thickness? Thinking of walking out on Harriet for a few hours this weekend...

I'm out of the area and am not sure about the thickness. I have heard in the White Bear area people have started traveling onto Bald Eagle, I can't imagine there is more than 4 inches out there. I think I will have to wait until we get some colder weather.

Well, as of this morning, Halstead Bay on Tonka is open and the rest of the bays are close.

I have heard we haven't lost too much ice over the last week, but I would be careful to venture out on the big lakes. Personally I'm sticking with the small lakes and the 5-8 inches that have been evindent on some along with knowledge I have picked up from store owner. On the lake I fish we have not lost that much over the last week or so, a bit of cloud cover has saved us I believe, otherwise I don't think we would be out there at all right now. A friend of mine was out on Saturday (12/16) and said he didn't see any significant changes from the start of the day to end in the ice depth, good sign hopefully. I am assuming we have got past the warmer weather and will cool down a bit. Hopefully all have seen their favorite lakes get by sufficiently to fish in the next week or so.

Merry Christmas to all!
