I didn't go out the other day cause I couldn't get to a bait shop and wanted to fish with tip-ups. (I DO some jiging)
But afterward,I wondered about if there was much chance of I had used gulp/powerbait or similar. I know that I have used dead minnow baits for pike and it seems to work better than live one. I think in the winter that pike mainly become scavengers of smaller fish that meet their end of old age etc and stay suspended and in the cold water hang around until either they slowly decompose or something eat them.
I'm not sure how much odor comes into play on winter fish strikes for them and other fish but has anyone tried just putting some of these on a hook and waiting?
I have seen videos of Aqua vu's on fish strikes and note how some fish seem to need some jigging to entice strikes but others seem to come up slowly and seem to inhale the bait.
Anyone every give these a try in a pinch?
