My auger seem's to be done for the year. It won't stay running. re-built the carb with a complete new kit. Put it together to the tee, still acting up. If i prime it, the auger will run till the bowl is dry .
Any help from the auger pro's ??
Thanks for the help

What kind?
If the carb has truely been put together right, and it will run with priming, I would look at the fuel line coming from the tank. There is a screen/filter on some that get clogged over time. Inside the tank. It still sounds to me like the carb is not right.

The fuel line is good, getting plenty of gas

Loosen the gas cap and try it, the caps have a vent in them, some have a screw that you loosen and some are supposed to automatically vent. The vent gets broken or cloged and the auger will run for a short time and then die.

Did you try tapping on the bowl, possible stuck float/needle valve? Did you put a new float in?

Yes, we did a complete rebuild with gaskets, diapram, needle seat. cleaned the bowl, lines and ports.
Fishhunter,
What kind of auger is it?
If it is a strikemaster, I suggest that the problem is the fuel inlet screen.
On the strikemaster as well as some other types of carbs, there is a very very fine mesh screen that is fit over the hole where the fuel line comes into the carb.
If this screen is plugged, the engine will run until the carb runs dry and then the engine will die.
This screen is almost impossible to clean, especially if it is gummed up with old gas. It seems that even most types of carb cleaner will not successfully clean this very fine mesh filter.
The solution is to install a new screen.
For test purposes, you can remove the screen, reassemble the carb and see if this fixes your problem.
However, I wouldn't recommend that you leave the carb in this conditon, because if you get any grit or dirt in your gas, it will go through the fuel line, into the carb and will likely plug the very fine jets in the carb.
Take care

It is a jiffy 2h.p. auger. The auger runs if you prime it till it's out of gas. Everything looks good as for the fuel supply go's.

Check the gas line, if there is the tiniest crack in it , it will suck air and only run cause you forced the gas in when priming it. Cheapest fix there is. Many times I`ve torn down the carb, only to find out it was the plastic gas line. Hope this is the answer.

Call Feldman Eng the makers of Jiffy 800-344-0712 (I believe it's Kevin) follow the menu and he will guide walk you threw what to do on your auger.
I went up to the factory about a month ago and they got my Jiffy 3HP Auger all ready for ice fishing season. The guy (Kevin I think) ran my auger on a dyno machine. He went threw how to tune up the auger and everything. My auger runs like a MAD BEAST now. Great people.

fishunter70, Not to be ignorant, but my Jiffy 2 hp doesn't have a primer just a choke. How old or new is this auger?

Not sure how old it is. My dad has a 3hp thats 15-20 yrs old. The auger I have looks to be the same, except it's a 2hp.

My 3 hp had a primer. My 2hp is 4 years old and doesn't. I kind of like the idea of having a primer and would like one on my 2 hp.

Hey, I have a 3hp jiffy auger that is two years old and has the exact same problem. It runs good until the bowl runs out of gas then quits. You can keep it running only if you keep priming the gas. I have taken in in twice to authorized jiffy service centers and they say they cant find anything wrong with it. But last weekend just as I was about to give up hope I turned the idle up until it was idleing just to what is required to turn the auger with no resistance. It seems to scream at idle but starts first pull and runs all day without dying. I dont know what this changed but i have used it four days now without it dying once, i was to the point i was ready to go back to my hand auger.
The latests Jiffy 3hp models have been plagued with this syndrom due to being set too lean from the factory. I put a response on Lake link with a pic on how to set the carb adjustments. I've had no problems for the past 3 years and there are others that were able to get their jiffys to run like they are suppose to. Check out this link and see if it helps.
