For those still with lots of ice in the northwoods, this is the best time of year for Crappie. A shot of warm air and some fresh oxygen in the water and bang!
Be safe, harvest conservitively and have fun!

Crappie Kid,
It has not started yet, fished last evening and the Crappies are still not on the big bite, will be another week or so before that happens. I'm in the Eau Claire area and make a couple trip over to my dad's and we fish the area just north of Eagle River during last ice and it is a blast. Going out again tomorrow morning to see if they are starting to move into one of my favorite spots.

They are starting to pick up the bite this weekend in the deep water, next weekend should be prime time in the shallows for the big ones!

Fish For Fun, I am here in Canada, you might say a novice Crappie fisherman, what triggers the crappies to start moving to the shallows,is it when the water starts running? Would like to try to get on to the early shallow bite and see what I can come up with.

It sure is fun when you are in 5 ft. of water and the holes are melted out from the water running in. You can look down the hole and watch the big crappies swim up and suck in your bait. Just remember that you can really put a hurtin on a lakes crappie population by taking to many of the big females out this time of year. Keep enough for a meal or two and let them go to spawn, you will thank yourself 4 or 5 years later.

6 guys fishing, 4-5 days, only one Crappie.
Fishing was slow all weekend, still a blast sitting on the ice (slush) in 70 degree weather.
