Three of us are driving up to Alex to check on a friend's cabin on Lake Ida this upcoming weekend. We plan on fishing a day or two before we drive back to Iowa. Is there "safe" ice on the lake? How about the public access near Betsy Ross resort? Also, how's the fishing? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Bring your auger extension.

Within 70 miles of Alexandria, ice was 40 thick inches on 03/18/07.

If you can get on Crappie or other panfish it's a great time to fish them.

Other seasons are closed in MN.

The last time that I was on Miltona we only had about 17" of ice.

Last week, a local here told me that they had really good luck with the pan fish near Betsy Ross. The worst problem is that it has been windy since Sunday and I had planned to go out Sunday so I cannot give you an ice condition report.

It's 45 degrees, misting and windy in West Central Minnesota this morning with more of this forecasted for the rest of the week and weekend. You can bring your ice stuff but I wouldn't count on using it.

Scott Lee

can plainly see the good Lord meant for man to fish six times as much as he works.

Got back Sunday afternoon. We fished Friday evening when we first got to Lake Ida. No luck, fishing in deep water, but had fairly thick ice,but it was starting to look funny like it does just before breakup. Glad for the power auger.
We went shallower Saturday and did very well on blue gills, and average size crappies. Had a great time. Ice was really getting rotten Sunday when we headed back to Iowa after Saturday night rain. Thanks for the help.

Sad to hear it is almost over for this year especially in the Alex area.

Just would like to add a thank you to Scott Golden for adding this forum to his sight this year. I have enjoyed reading everything you folks have to say. Checkmate
