What do you folks do to store your auger for the season to make sure it starts up the following season?

I always put Seafoam in my gas all year long rather than Stabil. I dump out all of the gas that I can and run it until it quits with the choke on full. I then pull the plug and spray some fogging oil in the cylinder and then pull it over a few times and put the plug back in. Have been doing this for years and it starts every fall in 3 pulls. I also sray fogging oil on the blades so they do not rust. I hang my auger upright inside my tool shed.

Fogging oil is a an oil that gets sprayed in to the cylinder, it coats the cylinder wall to help prevent corrosion/rust.

I do much like the previous poster...I empty my gas tank, start the motor and run till it dies. I then pull the plug, spray some fogging oil in and turn it over a few times to "spread" the oil around. I then replace the plug. I also spray my carb area with wd40. It then gets put away in the basement. This is how I've been doing my augers for years, they've never broken down on me.

I agree that it is a good idea to put stabil or sea foam into the tank before running it the last time. Even if you dump all of the gas out of the tank and run it until it is dry, there may be some residual gas that could gum - if it doesn't have stabil or sea foam in the tank.

Then, do as the other posts suggest, dump the gas, run it until it is dry and fog the cylinder.

Also spray or grease the blades to minimize corrosion.

Take care

The best way to store your auger according to strikemaster is put stabil in it and run it for a couple of minutes a month. They say even if you run it dry their will still be gas left in it. bby leaving the gas in it and running it every so often you protect gaskets and seals that will dry out.

When you run a 2-stroke out of gas you are also running the engine out of oil(unless it's a new four stroke). Maybe follow what the manual say's. what works for some people might not work for you. I put stabil in mine and fire it up a whenever I'm out in the garage.

"When you run a 2-stroke out of gas you are also running the engine out of oil"

I guess but it's not like your running the motor without oil. No damage is done. That last sputter has as much oil as any other stroke. And, when you add the new gas/oil mix next season when you fire it up it's lubricated. It's mix, if it fires it's getting oil.
