I want to build a 6ft. by 10ft. fishhouse, that would be light enough to pull out on to the lake with a four wheeler. Not one with wheels, but skids. Any construction ideas, hole placement (how many), what kind of door, materials (2 x 2's, 2 x 3', etc.), size of the skids, siding material, roof design, etc., etc., etc. Thanks!

We have a 6x9, and used some uncommon materials. Basically, my buddy has access to boxed pallets that contain heavy machinery radiators, each is about 3x5 and made from heavy duty pressboard, essentially. We slapped 4 of them together, they clip together with metal clips, to make a big box. We had to tuse 3 skids, the middle one to support the middle seam.

We them slapped a piece of steel on for the slanted roof, and it works pretty darn well. We don't sleep in it, but it holds the heat great for being uninsulated. We just cut squares and put plexiglass in for windows, and used a piece of plywood for the door, with spring loaded clasps for holding the door shut.

All in all, we have a bout $125 into it, mostly for the 2x6 and 4x4 boards we use for skids, and the steel roof. Some trim 1x pine to cover the seams, and left over paint from our home projects. It is unique, thats for sure :) But works great.

We have 7 holes in it, none by the door which is in a corner (on short wall), but two side by side holes in each of the other three corners, so you can jig one or both holes, or use one hole for locator and one for jigging. That allows you to sit with back against the long walls facing in, or back right at the middle with two holes in front of you. We have the 7th hole about in the middle on long wall in front of the door, but far enough so you don't have to worry about stepping in it. Here is basic diagram:

____________
x.x....x.x
..........
ch......ch
..........
x.........
........ch
..........
.......X.X
-door-------

edit - I see my spaces did not work, so just imagine the dots as not there, and the right most wall lining up on the far right side...
ch is chair location. X are holes.
Hope that makes sense. It works for us, and we fish 3 guys mostly, but you can do 4, but gets pretty tight then.

We pulled it with snowmobile, but had to help push it to get started, but then it slid pretty well. We have it up on 2x6 laying flat, then 4x4 as the actual skid, so about 5-6 inches off the ice. It pulls like a dream behind a truck, but we didn't try pulling it with 4x4 or sled after we had some snow out there. It is pretty heavy with all the heavy pressed wood as walls and cieling. I would think a 2x3 walls with insulation and steel as sheathing would work pretty well and keep it light.

Good luck! Hope some of this helped you with some ideas.

I saw a house once that was made out of insulated aluminum garage door panels. I didn't get a good look at it but I would think it should be light and warm.
