It was a great summer for fishing, but now its come to and end its time to put away the summer gear and start thinking about the hard ice options. Where does everyone go trout fishing, we have a trip booked for the first weekend in jan. up to camp manitou on lower manitou lake. I have been to crow and rowan, crow was a little too crowded and we couldn't find a place to stay on rowan. Just wondering what everyone else does?

We always go up to Pipestone and do very well. Lots of nice trout and not much traffic. Also alot of smaller lakes in the area to try and explore. There are also some walleye lakes nearby, but mainly excellent lakers. We stay with Gateway North Outfitters at there outpost on Pipestone. I believe they have an outpost that they use in the winter as well on Dogfly next door to Manitou.

Gunflint trail is our ice fishing destination when we are looking for trout. Have a friend with a cabin up there.

We have stayed on Lower Manitou lake and pipestone. We stayed on pipestone 5-7 years ago back when northern shield outfitters owned a couple of outpost cabins on the lake, the fishing was ok, but nothing like the manitou. We move to barker bay with ted davis, but then when he sold a couple of years ago we changed to Camp Manitou. We love the lake, lots of trout in the 3-7lb. range with a few large ones. We always go early in jan. and late in march. I don't think northern shield is around anymore, I think the other two camps are www.barkerbayoutpost.com and www.campmanitoufishing.net
The best thing about these two places is they are only 35 miles north of the border.
