I just put on the plastic runners under my otter, I wanted metal but they only make plastic ones, seemed really tough wondering if anyone else bought a set and how you like them?

when i bought my otter sled i thought i could get by without them but early in the year pulling it with a wheeler and with hardly any snow it quickly started to wear on the sled, so i immediately bought them and do not regret it at all, they are a must have item if you are pulling them with a machine if you want the sled to last.

The Hyfax runners are good, BUT I've been using old sets of snow skis that I pick up at Goodwill for around $2.00 to $5.00 a set. They work super.
I sometimes pull my OTTER at 40 mph for 15 miles up on LOW and up to 8 to 10 miles on Lake Erie where the ice can be VERY rough. They are also towed allot along bare roads along lakes and at bare parking lots at launch sites. I've been doing it for the last 10 years, and get about 4 years out of a set of skis.
I use stove bolts to attach them to the sled, and let the heads of the bolts stick out below the bottom of the ski, it gives you a good wearing surface for the bare surfaces you have to cross.

They also help the sled track better behind the wheeler or snowmobile.

No... just go right to there web site and get them, they are speacially made for the sled you have, only like around 60.00 total.

I do the same as the other post.
i.e. I go to the good will and pick up a pair of skiis for 2-5.

Then, I cut the skiis to length so that they are the same length as the house. I bolt them on and they are good to go.

The sled pulls much easier with the skiis on the bottom of the house, and it protects the bottom.

Take care

they are great, keep you sled from gettng beat up in low snow conditions, made for the pockets already molded in the bottom of your sled. old ski would work but I would buy the hyfax and do it right.

Hyfax are great but they won't last under tough conditions. I live less than 1 block from my acces to the lake. Most years we have some snow on the edge of the street to run on but last year was particularly snowless. Anyway after one season of running back and forth to the lake the Hyfax are toast. Had to buy another set to start this season, but they did what they were supposed to and that was to protect the sled. I may have to look into a ski system.

I just put some on my sled a few weeks ago. I didn't order them from otter but just bought some UHMW from U.S. plastics and cut them to fit myself. cheaper and could get the width and thickness I wanted.

I just added the hyfax from Otter on my Otter Cabin. It costs $33 from Thorne Bros. in Northern Twin Cities, and it came with all the hardware needed. Went on in a snap, but helps to have another person on one side and you on the other.

I also added two 48cm LED light strips, and it will be nice and bright in there this year, with virtually no draw from battery. Can't wait for ice :)

Yeah thats a great tip Box, dont even attempt to do them by yourself its immposible because you cant reach to the oter side to put whaser on and the bolts are real short so its a major pain in the butt. I had to wait for my buddy to stop by to help me becuse I just couldt do it alone. I actually didnt put the stop washers on, I didnt have the patience after all that but I drilled the holes tight so there is no way it will pull through. I also hot glued the holes on the runners shut, its pretty cool. If I want to change them I just unbolt from the inside then slap on the new ones.

What size did you order? What type of bolts did you use to attach them? I would guess that you counter sunk the holes, did you also taper the ends?
