My top 2 producers for numbers as well as size the past few seasons have been the Salmo Chubby Darters, fallowed by the Salmo Zipper.

Many anglers look at the Zipper and say...man..that baby is too big for walleye...far from true is what I see. Granted it is a "Hog Caller", it really reaches out and call in preditors, great for stained waters or at night. I often fish it hard..rip-rip-rip..pause..and repeat. Big fish come in hard and slam it. I found it works best for me up a bit higher off the bottom, sometimes 6 feet off. My top 3 over #10 last season all came off the Luminescent Real Roach Zipper, and they drilled it hard. I seldome tip them with meat yet I almost always grease them up with a scent option such as Dr. Juice, or a Gulp rub. A smear of a juicy minnow works best on many outings.

My point is do not underestimate a hungry walleye, they will smash larger baits than you often give them credit for, give the Zipper a go once and see.

I really don't have a top 3 but the lure that has worked the best for me on the ice has been the jigging ice Rapala (the smallest one- not sure of the number) in either chartruse and white or the perch color. Tip it with a chub minnow and away you go! Here they are...

Crappies:

1/32 oz neon chart/orange swimmin' jig with waxy
#10 glow blue fatboy with waxy

glow yellow fatboy works, too, but the swimmin jig is my staple, depending on whether I think a horizontal hang or a vertical one would work best.

It sometimes helps to apply a stickon eye to the backside of the swimmin jig. I think eyes on lures help.

A tiny piece of raw shrimp from the grocery store works, sometimes better than waxies. From time to time GULP maggots work as well but are not as consistant.

How you rig so as to detect the light bite is more important for crappies than just exactly which jig you put on the end of the line. Most fishermen never notice at least half of the catchable crappie bites they get.

I hope to find walleyes with the buckshot rattle spoon and fathead head, but mostly I fish crappies, usually for only a couple or three hours on the way home from work or in the late afternoon.
