Looking to book a trip for walleye/sauger and lake trout ice fishing (more emphasis on walleye!!!) for this winter. Looking at LOTW, Red lake, Kabetagoma, and Mille Lacs. Any other lakes to consider? Where can I get the best fishing experience for the money? Do I want to stay in a sleeper shack or in a cabin on shore? Just looking for two nights and two days of fishing. I don't want to travel to canada to save on gas. Thanks

I fish Kab all summer and I love it. I have never tried it in the winter but plan to this year. I will let you know how it goes. I am going with Jimmy4218 to LOW in the end of Jan. There are both Walleye and Lakers in LOW. from what I have heard it is an awsome fishery. We also go to the Gunflint for lakers.

If you are after lakers, Try Burntside or Snowbank in Ely Minnesota. You will also find walleyes on Burntside. Heres the deal on Burntside. The US Forest Service plows one road to the Laker Trolling Grounds. From there, walk, use sled or ATV. Babe's Bait in town has the cisco's and salted shiners, or bring your own. You know the drill. If you want splake or rainbows, I have some spots. You'll need to sled in 5 miles. These lakes border the BWCAW. I outpost on one of them and can show you the way. Sleepers are available at Smitty's on Snowbank. No sleepers on Burntside. We should be making good ice this week. lows will be -0. I will be on Burntside shoreline, it's doesn't completely freeze over till Jan.

LOW, RED, Rainy, MIl Lacs, Winni are all good walleye lakes. I would say LOW, Red, Rainy or Mil Lacs in that order.

This months Minnesota Sportsman has a good laker article.
There must be half a dozen lakes listed.
There is also one in Pine County just over an hour from the twin cities.

Good Luck,
