A few years ago I stopped using vinyl electrical tape and zip ties to attach my reels to those ice rods without reel seats. Vinyl tape does not hold up and it gets sticky.

Now I use self-fusing silicone tape. It only sticks to itself and makes a nice grip. I bought it from an electrical supply house but you can find it at Radio Shak and at Ace hardware. It also comes under the name "Tommy Tape" and "Rescue Tape".

I agree. I've been using it for about three years and love it. Absolutely no residue and definitly holds the reel in place.

One of the things that I like best about it is that you can remove it, change reels and re-use it.

Great Tip. I bought my tape today ($2.49 / roll at Ace) and it works awesome. I was using black cloth hockey tape in prior years, but this is stuff is so much better. Thanks and Tight Lines.

What also works well is hockey tape!
