View Full Version : Detroit river Canadien side boat regs
What type of boat paperwork is necessary to fish the Canadien side of the Detroit river? What does the DNR look for? Anything besides registration? Do you need a passport or voters registration card?

You must have a Canadian Fishing license, follow the Canadian fishing regulations and meet all USCG regulations. For fishing you do not need anything else, except if you plan to anchor/dock your boat on/in Canada, you must notify the Canadian Coast Guard - ahead of time.

Not sure specifically about Detroit, but on other border waters my experience has been that you need: boat registration, insurance, license, remote border pass, and valid receipts for any bait (Canadian) in the boat.

Boat registration is required by USCG, insurance is optional, remote border pass is not required unless you dock/anchor in Canadian water, and not sure about receipt for live bait.
You do need receipts, unless something has recently, for livebait in the boat, if fishing in Canadian water. (Ontario) I know this, since I had to sell, (with my commercial license), the minnows I used to win the PWT Championship on the Rainy River, to the Canadian bait dealer, then buy them back to make it kosher. lol

Make sure you don't have beer in the boat. I got checked last year and that's what they wanted to know first. Other than that just license and Registration. They never asked about minnows.
