Last week I bought one of those converters that fits in your hand auger on one end, and the other end fits in a cordless drill for drilling holes. It takes a 1/2 inch chuck, which I didn't have. So I went to Sears and bought a 19.2 volt cordless drill, on sale $99.95 charger and 2 batteries.

Got 20 5 inch holes in 6 inches of ice on one battery, and my blades are not that sharp anymore or I think I would of got a few more. Worked great and I wasn't tired at all.

Anyone else had experience with these? I think it was worth the $25.00 . Even though I had to but the cordless drill I needed another anyway.

My father will be 70 this summer. He loves to ice fish but the hole drilling is getting too much for him. He's also too cheap to buy a gas powered auger. This adapter might be the key.

Where did you get yours from? I found one online at FishUSA.com. It goes for $19.99

Go to ice shanty.com and look at the Icegator, pricey but the video shows just how well it works next to a guy with a drill adapter. The only downside is they are for 6" auger's

Those ice gators are pretty impressive. I see they're working on developing an eight inch model. But like you said, more expensive than a drill adaptor. If I had the money I think I'd have to consider one, though. But for areas where there normally isn't alot if ice, (like here) it's hard to justify $300 - $400 for a power auger & the hand augers or drills adaptors seem to be more practical.

I was going to make one of these to go on my 6" auger. The ice here is already 2' thick. I saw it on ebay and I think it was selling for 8 bucks with shipping on top. looks easy to make but would only do it if the drill would do a 6" hole. The ebay add said it would do up to 6" but no bigger. Sounds like I could get about 4 holes or so eh?

I love mine I already had a 18volt Dewalt the key is a good drill and sharp auger I use a 6" lazer mag.... I also bought the handle for the adapter it will save the auger from going down the hole....should have bought the handle before the first auger went into the drink.... lucky I have some magnets with when I'm ice fishing and got the auger back out...LOL
