To the poster that asked about adding a SmartCraft monitor, and if it can be a DYI project,

I've now installed SmartCraft Gauges on my 2nd Mercury motor, and it can be easy to accomplish. First, remove your cowl, and look for the SmartCraft data cable plug-in, a rectangular plug about 3/4" x 1-1/4". If this is not being used by your current gauges, you can add the monitor just by getting the proper data cable, and plugging it in to that location. I can't find the actual installation manual online, to post a link, but here is the Mercury operation manual for the monitor itself. Maybe, once the board is fully up and running, we can exchange email addresses, and I'll send you the pdf file I have of the installation manual.

Thanks for the info! I'll pull my cowl tonight and see what I can find. I've been under there for service work a few times but never really paid any attention. Can you give me any tips where about I should be looking once the cover is off(2006 225XL Optimax)??

can't help you man, I'm running a "baby" Opti 75. I've no idea where it might be on yours. Maybe somebody else knows where it is?

Thanks anyway, I'm sure I'll find it. It's really only a matter of how many cold ones it takes!

On my 2007 250 ProXS, its on the starboard side of the motor. There may be a yellow "Terminator" cap on the plug end...likely a 6 prong plug. You may need that as the SmartCraft data harnesses need to terminate with those Terminator plugs.

Good luck!

I'd recommend this. It is a "Smartcraft system monitor".

I'ts all ya need. here is the webpage from merc's website. It is the ones on the right side of the page. There are 2 to choose from. One is round & one is rectangle.

Actually that's exactly what I'm getting, mine will be round and black to match the rest of my gauges. All I left to do is check my engine harness and see if it has the resistors on it or not so I know which data cable to order. I would expect I should have it ordered and installed within a week or two. thanks for the help guys!

Next week will be a big week for the old 1895! I have a keel gaurd to be installed, a Navionics chip on order, new smarcraft system, two new rod holders, and two new replacement livewell timers!

Heck, last week the trailer got new ceder bunks with a coat of spar varnish, new carpet, and all stainless hardware, new leaf srping packs and hardware, and diamond plate aluminum steps to replace to carpeted wood ones.

I may actually get the boat the way "I" want it before the summers over! Then again a couple of 113C's probably won't make the budget this year, lol!!!

FYI, typically, on a single data cable system, the resistors are on the cable, not the engine harness. The part # for the 20' data cable, with resistors at both ends, is 84-879982-T20. If you send me an email message thru WC, I'll send you back the wiring info.
