View Full Version : Red Lake, still enough ice?

I will be traveling up to the Bemidji area this coming Sat/Sun/ Mon, As my wife has a job interview on Tuesday.I have never been on upper/lower Red. Wondering if there is still enough ice. Anyone interested in showing me good spots or willing to go out w/ me to track down a few crappies?

Brian the good spots change constantly. If you go out of Rogers Resort on the south side, they will tell you where the best bite was the previous day. I generally fish away from the crowd just for the noise factor. For something different the 8-9 foot range with waxies for whitefish. Kick-your-butt fight and awesome table fare if you connect. You can only fish a portion of upper Red the rest is reservation land and off limits to non native Americans. The south shore has 4 different accesses and the NE side has 3. Ask where they are biting and keep moving unless you are catching.
The bite was slow in Jan but will pick up here in Mar so have fun.
Plenty of ice you will be driving out to them with your car or truck.
30+ " and no snow.
Does anyone know if an extension is needed for an ice auger or is it still thin enough to get through without???

Just returned from a night on Red, best trip of the year for me, 3 guys, 45 Crappies out of Rogers. My Strikemaster was right down to thhe powerhead, very close, will bring an extension along next time! its minus 9 right now and more cold weather this week

I will be at the red Suburban near the weigh in tent. We will
stick around and fish afterwards too. Bring a portable with
you if you can, we might be full. Stop by one way or the other.

I will be staying at Rutgers, about 4 miles north of Bemidji. I was told they are fishing on a lake just outside the resort. I am going to try and get over to Red and look you up. I will be the guy that looks totally lost driving a red chev x-cab. My neighbor just stopped in and said I could borrow his new power auger for the weekend, what a guy!!!
Now I am looking to borrow a portable. Oh these last minute details...

...More info, just in.. I just won the "Friday Flowers" on a local radio show,after I give these to the wife I know for sure that she will let me fish, wherever I want!!!
