There is only one in my book (bow)
Muzzy
Don't overlook NAP Thunderheads. I've been shooting these since the 125gr. were first introduced (can't even remember when it was, many years ago) and I have had great success with them. Like most of todays heads, if your bow is tuned well and your arrows are set up correctly, they fly well and consistent. Rarely have any blade breakage on kills and still have a couple of the original dozen I bought that have passed through several deer. Just keep sharp blades in them and they keep killing. There are many different types, I am partial to fixed blades as this is what I have always shot but many have switched over to the expandables. I can't even help you with recommendations there, I have no interest in them so have not researched them. As Scott said, the Muzzy products are good as are Rocky Mtn.. If it were me, I would stay within in these 3 brands but thats just because they've been around for a long time and have proven themselves over and over again. Get to a local pro shop and try to shoot some user heads with your hunting set up and find what shoots best out of your bow. This is the critical part.

I've killed many deer with a 125 grain NAP Thunderhead. The past few years though I've been shooting a 125 grain Muzzy. I won't go back to the Thunderhead . The Muzzy is overbuilt compaired to the Thunderhead. The blade locking design on the Muzzy is second to none. I've lost blades on Thunderheads going through deer. You can kill deer/elk/moose/bear with a field point if you hit them in the right spot. If your going after dinosaur shoot Muzzy

I to was skeptical of the expandable broadhead. I finally switched over from NAP'S Thunderhead fixed blade to there open on impact Spitfire broadhead. Have been using these now for about 6 Years or so. Have taken my share of Whitetail's and two Black Bear with the open on impact head. From what I have witnessed along with my hunting partner I will never even consider a fixed blade broadhead for the rest of my career as a bowhunter. Just my two cents worth. Goodluck this Fall to all Hunters.

I have shot a dozen or so deer with Muzzy 125gr heads in the past several years. Every one was a complete pass through. The last arrow that I didn't have a pass through on was a NAP Spitfire expandable. I killed the deer, but wasn't impressed with the penatration. If you are going to stick to a fixed blade go with either a Muzzy head or Thunderhead. I also have heard that those Montec heads are nice...but spendy. See what flies good and have fun!!

i have used thunderheads for 20 years with great results. i have since gone to montecs because of new bow setup. i have also used the spitfire expandables on moose as well as deer. they performed well on deer and bear because of the thin skin. they do not perform well on moose or other thick skinned game. DO NOT USE on thick skinned game! i have seen countless times where they do not perform well in these situations. my friend just returned from africa. he had the same results. thin skinned game was great, but heavy skinned game he had disastrious results. following game for hours before finally finishing them of with the rifle. dont make the same mistake that i made.
I used to use 100 grain Muzzys and liked them a lot. The only problem is that every time I hunted it was really windy. A few of my buddies and I switched to NAP Spitfires (expandible) for less wind drift. I really had an issue switching over at first. I was concerned that the entrance hole wouldn't be big enough as the head wouldn't open up fast enough. I tested it out on a squirrel and it opened up before going through the first side. If you have any reservations about this (or have a noisy squirrel giving off your location) give this a test. You will be amazed at how big the hole is.
One thing to add. The penetration of the Nap Spitfire expandable is fine. I have killed five deer with this head and haven't had any problems with penetration. I shoot a Mathews LX with a 68 lb. draw weight.

I used muzzy's for about 8 years and finally switched over to expandable broadheads. Try the grim reapers or rage, both are great. I haven't lost a deer yet, and most are on the ground within 50 yards. Out of 15 deer only 1 made it over 100 yards:108 yards. You will not be disappointed.

I think the best way to go is with the 125 grain Grim Reeper expandable broadhead. I just started using them last year and the performance is remarkable. If you don't drop the animal right in its tracks, you will still have a Huge blood trail to follow. The blades are the some of the sharpest made and you wont see me in the woods anytime soon without them on my arrows. And plus they are very accurate.

Muzzy,NAP are great broadheads but the Rage DO NOT USE THEM!!! I just talked to a few people last week, two who shot and lost deer 1 was a deer of a lifetime, a triple beamer he hit it high and never had blood, 1 guy shot and lost a bear ..again no blood. They are junk! Last year my friend shot a 155" and a piece of fat got lodged in the blade and caused the arrow to stop..it will not cut any more, again no blood!
With todays tech in bows you do not need expandables for good arrow flight. Penetration is key I started using Sonic broadheads by American Broadhead co. last year with exellent success, the fellow who turned me on to them shot a deer at 25 yrds through the front shoulders and the arrow went through and stuck in the ground. He shoots 55 lbs and both holes looked like a slug hole. The head is designed to fly like a field tip..and does, it is a 7/8" cut but because of the angle on the blades it creates about a 1.25" cut it's like poking your finger into a balloon it stretches and cuts a larger hole. I practice at any were from 35 to 45 yrds, They pretty much go through my target when others barely make it through..that should say enough right there

I shot my first deer this year with a rage broadhead and I don't know how there couldn't be blood as the last post replied. There was the biggest bloodtrail I've ever seen and I've been hunting for 25 years now. he dropped at less than 60 yards. I highly recommend them. I tried using the Muzzy 100 grain four blade broadheads and I could not get them to fly like I wanted them to. The rages fly like the ads say they do- like a field tip.

Accuracy and good shot placement trump everything else....I'm sure you guys are well aware and assuming that....but just thought it should be said. So if that's the case, then use what's most accurate in your bow.
