I have been checking them out also. At two shows I was shown the WJR842S. This rod is supposed to made just for WALLEYE. It is 6'2"as they have experimented with the strength in the bottom and the action at the top.
I keep walking around it at shows like a rattle snake. Just passing on what I've heard so far. Has anyone used this rod???

I am guessing that you are talking about the WJR 742? At any rate, I believe that they moved the reel seat forward to allow you to touch the blank w/ your finger while jigging. However, I believe that this is a lower modulus graphite, which in turn, is heavier and less sensitive. That is why I stick to the SJR 721. Hope that helped.

I got a WJR741 as a gift and it improved my feel vertical jigging so much I went out and bought a second one. I can't tell you if it's better or worse than a similar style IMX, but I suspect you wouldn't go wrong with either.

i fish a few loomis rods and it will depend on if your cast jigging or vertical jigging. For vertical i would go with the sjr641 due to easy control and a faster hook set, for casting id go with a sjr781 this extra length will give you more accurate and better distance on casting.
Also I tend to prefer the imx blanks for the feel but have not fished enough glx to make an accurate comment.

I decided 2 years ago to check out the wjr742, fished with it for about a week, once I picked up my IMX SJR721 again the first thing I did was take the wjr back to Cabelas, its heavier and I don't think it is as sensitive as the IMX

Thanks. I am taking a bunch of guys up to a fish show this weekend and will try it out. It makes sense if it is 6'2 that it is a 74.

I've been using a pair of WJR741's for the last two years, Very good rods for the money in my opinion. Combined with 6# Fireline they are dangerous to walleyes! LOL

If you want a free one there is a GL3 in pool 17 on the Mississippi on the Iowa side about 300 yds. from the lock in about 15ft. down. It has gold hi vis. on it so if you snag some of that try and get it. You ask how do I know well I lost it 2/22/02.Sure hope a kid finds it. Hope anyone finds it hate to see it go to waste. just thought I would let people know that fish there.

The WJR742S is a hair heavier than a SJR721. The WJR741S is closer. I own this rod, the WJR741S, and it is terrific. Supposedly the rod material is very similar to IMX if not the same. The 741 is extremely light and incredibly sensitive. At times I use this same rod for light rigging, like a 1/8 ounce sliding sinker with a gumdrop jig or something like that. I liked this rod so well, in fact, I got one for my brother for his 65th birthday two years early. I wouldn't mind getting a 6' IMX but the next rod I'm saving for, note I said "saving", is the WWR8400S for heavier rigging. I'd love to have the bucks to get St. Croix's 6'3" Legend Elite spinning rod, lighter even than the 741 Loomis and extra fast action. Ah...someday.
