I just got a chance to take out my boat with my new 101 Terrova, man what a nice trolling motor. I could not believe how easy it was to use . I had a 2005 ,109#PTSV for the past couple of years. I really liked the mototrguide, but the Terrova blew me away. My wife even found it easy to use. How does everyone else like there Terrova, any issues?

I like mine a lot, though the new pedal design is nice, IMHO it's too darn big, using it today, I just can't like it with it being so big, Normally I use my co-pilot, I think I'll stick to it from the time being, I really want a mini pedal with the same speed control as the normal pedal.

I am very happy with my Terrova also. Easy to deploy. The foot petal is just what I need. I can steer right or left without looking, and change speed or apply auto pilot easily.

A couple of things you should be aware of:
-occassionally, the terrovas have self deployed while on plane; make sure you slide that collar down when travelling or trailering.
-the co-pilot has a "high bypass" switch on it. Be careful not to activate this while standing in the bow with the motor at 90 degrees.

What is a high bypass switch?
It instantaneously activates the motor at full throttle, catches you off guard and sends you flailing over the side into the water!

I can vouch for the terrova deploying while on plane. Going 45 mph across Sakakawea it deployed, ouch...

why do they have a high bypass switch?

I don't own a Terrova but from reading past posts the high speed button is on the remote for the CoPilot system. Several have said they didn't like it because it was easy to accidentally push the button causing the boat to jerk sideways or forward depending on which direction the motor prop was in.
As to why Minn Kota added that feature to the remote, I don't know. I have a PD Auto pilot with Co Pilot and have never had a need for the motor to run on instant high speed. IMHO it looks like an accident waiting to happen but I'm sure Minn Kota did a bunch of marketing research to determine if customers would like/need this feature.
If you don't have the Co Pilot option I don't think there's a instant high speed button on the foot pedal. At least I haven't read about it in any past posts.

I really like and enjoy my Terrova, the AP function is just awesome, regardless of how rough it is I'm always pointed and going in the direction of where I want to go. I have yet to use the foot pedal for manual opperation so I can't comment on that I use it for trolling only.

I troll, therefore I am. When we get snagged, I turn the head around and hit the hi bypass. We're going over the snagged bouncer in seconds (provided we're not in traffic).
