I have a fly-in trip scheduled for late May -- north of Armstong. First time with a real outfitter -- in the past always canoed or carried in our own boats.

About a 13 mile lake -- apparently there are lake trout. Hopefully I can get some advise on catching them. Gear and methods.

Thanks in advance.

Rick,
I had great success trolling J-11 Black and Silver Rapalas 2 years ago on Savant Lake during the first week in June. Two of the guys I go with are big Lake Trout fans and I always end up cleaning their fish. In so doing I discovered that the Lakers were feeding on 4-5" hering. Match the hatch. I made up some 6' leaders with good snaps on each end and attached 3 oz. trolling weights ahead of the Rapalas. This set up put me in the 60-70' water depth that the Trout were in that time of year. You will find them shallower in May so experiment. We have caught them without the weight on the same lures also. Sutton Spoons are another favorite.
Good luck,
Tracy

I don't know what size of fish that body of water holds, but if there are larger lake trout present, I'd highly recommend a Luhr Jensen K-16 Kwikfish. Looks very similar to a Flatfish. Get a couple of colors, including something with gold, silver, and the clown color. Also try large spoons, such as Husky Devils. The Lucky Strike Half Wave is also real good. The water should be cold enough that time of year to long-line troll these lures and get them deep enough. Keep it pretty slow, just enough to get action.
