IMHO ~ I soaked up as much as I possibly could from older Indian Lake Northside BassMaster's about rod-bending skills around Ohio tourneys to shorten the curve (1971 > forward) along with self-learned skills about IL's fish & bottom structure by the age of 25-29 yro & not much has changed to present. Since then I do add the new dredge slot plots added to Indian Lake and try to twist the lastest methods into my IL sUMo chase from the crumbs n' tidbits scattered from coast to coast on the internet... WC holds honors as my #1 source...

I remember once askin' Ohio I-Guy Jim Corey about Seneca lake's vis (2001-2002?) as I never fished it for tourney Eyes, but had fished it twice for Bass in the 70s ...he gave me more than I wanted or cared for, but gave me the necessary vis info... I think you get my drift ;) ...

I switched from Bass to full-time Eyez both on Erie & Indian Lake in the late 80s w/a pair of shot shoulders from flipping for hawg Bass. I have fished for Eyes since my 1st trip to Erie with my Dad in '1948 at the age of 5 yro...

fyi -Here's a old WC posted Indian Lake info report from the year '2000... I now in '2008, only give out observations on the I-net but share detailed info with known like-minded I-Anglers ~ I've been retired since '1999 & I'm still learnin' a thing or two & always will :)

Made 3 trips out today between 10:30 am & 9 pm this eve. Had around (by trip) 25-25-40 .. with about 50-60 over 16-17" & 1 fish over 3 lb, a 6 1/2 lber .. We had a large mayfly hatch last nite & the eyes were slow to start this morn & the Northside of the Lake was awash in their shells .. they are feedin' heavy on them, as I've got some boat cleanup to do in the morn! I hope this doesn't mean a early end to the eye season, as it is hard to match a mayfly nymph to a lure! Most of my big ones have come from the Big V or in the close by underfished area/s .. looks like the good ones are headin' deeper & have wised-up/slowed down .. todays 6 1/2 lber came from the main Lake on the gravel bar in front of Red Oak Isle.

BTW ~ with WC's change-over I have done alot of old WC readin' between the present nite-bite rod-bendin' the last few day -heheh :)

My Indian Lake Eye tips wrote in my Andy Capp style (my 2nd oldest daughter & her HS friends gave me the NN Raybob in the early 90's)...

Here's some observatons when usin' the above slider photo rig on the large Dipsey line in the Dipsey "UP" mode for the high-bite & to pull fullsize deep RRs without the inline PB clutter...

Yesterday's Dipsey test-drive @ 3.3-3.5 sog observations...

I can run it out 50' by itself & keep it on the surface w/o porpoising when I'm about 1/8" past the end of the weight (roughly 70-75 degrees from TDC) ... I can hear the dipsy audio-sing from 2' away from the rod & when I put my ear to the reel it's too much!!! (do they do this all the time-noisy suckers) ... it seems with the forward Dipsy-attachment point that the fins on the dipsy will surface-raise it well before the weight is @ 90 degrees... (*note-maybe try choppin' the rear fin off for a what/if test)

With the above setup I clipped on a "D-slider rig" w/deep RR about 8' up from the dipsy .. the RR bottomed out & 'not the dipsy in 12' .. I re-adjusted the dispy to nearly 80-85 degrees & was able to clear a 12' bottom @ 3.3-3.5 sog w/o porpoising or seeing the dipsy... I back-slammed 2 different shad 12-13"es & had 'No problem trippin' the dipsy w/fish-on & the red slider slid about 2' each time ... like I said before - I have 'not had a tangle problem even if the slider makes it down to the dipsy -- (*even when the dipsy porpoises outta the water (above^) it does not spin, but rather quickly goes back to work).

I need deeper water to experiment with runnin' 3 Deep RR's off one dipsy (two Snappers n' a R-slider), but I am certain that the center RR will be the deepest runner when runnin' 3 for the high-bite/dipsy up mode -- the suckers/RRs are hard pullers..but it should be rather easy to set 3 for a downward side spread in the 3.5 D-marker mode...

I even spent some time pullin' the "D-slider rig" w/D-RRs on the PB line, the OS board needs to be 'Mod with it's long arm placement before D-RRs will work (pulls the arm down & the PB falls behind to far) ... I have been runnin' SSR7s successfully on this rig, but I noticed the problem even then & thought D-RRs would be a bust with this setup/rig with OS PB standard setup ... I'll have it runnin' next year if I'm kickin'...

I then pulled the Dipsy "D-slider rig" 50' out w/one SSR7 in 2.8- 3.3' of water successfully n' caught 3 S-Eyes before the sun came out yesterday afternoon & I came home... 'no Ss or circles cuz it's straightline all the way to fly!

I don't know about playin' these games w/others on-board cuz I luv to fish & think(zone-out) by myself & cover lots water with krazy methods lookin' for 'the bite to put my R-Traps to work in the sUMo hunt here on IL... I just got on a Erie kick for the nuts of it n' the fact that I luv to mess around when I'm kinda Eye-ed out & thought I'd share my messin' around brain-farts with you guys, with some possible side-apps for IL use...

PS .. I used to make hand-made wooden F-line sliders before I went to PBs on IL .. they worked, but had draw-backs

BTW ~ I first started to use the term "sUMo" in my local Saugeye-speak after seeing how it was used by Backwater Eddy in the 90s on WC... so call me a old fart plagiarist :)

I made a email reply to a friend about when the last Walleye I caught from IL ...she was 8-9 lbs in 1991 off T-bar off the Southside of the Main Lake, Saugeye stocking began in the late 80s...

T-bar brings back some good I-mems from the 60-70-80's when I was a die-hard basser ... Walleye were main lake roamers unlike Saugeye that now also populate our channels/backwaters. Anywho, when late spring/early summer arrived & we started bassin' the open waters of IL you could always get a limit of walleyes from the ends of the South & West bank rock fishing piers ~ but T-Bar was always the leader in size & qty :)

BTW ...we had to quit slingin' chrome Big O's for riprap Bass because the Eyez luv-ed them!

-a lil' insight...

I got my start tourney fishing while workin' for Uncle Sam in the early 60s in South Carolina ...then I did most of my tourney angling for mostly Ohio bass in the 60-70s.

I did do my last, a tourney for Walleyes, with IL reel in either 2001-2002 over to Seneca Lake in SE Ohio ...I also gave the tourney 1k dollars to help send the winner to the Cabela's Championship...
