2003 Optimax has the no oil light on the tach illuminated. No alarms on the SmartCraft guages. Engine oil reservoir full and engine runs fine, ANY IDEAS?

My friend just bought a used Opti with the same problem. It turned out to be a bad sending unit.

Make sure that there is not some air at the top of the engine oil reservoir, it need to be completely full.

There might be a quarter inch of air in the engine reservoir tank. The only sensor I have found is the low oil sensor in the tank and the switch works, it has continuety thru it. I unplug it and the light still stays on! I have the NO OIL light lit on the tach but engine runs and starts fine, it is not in limp mode. What triggers the NO OIL light? The oil pump has to be running as it did not seize yet or get hot and I can smell some oil being burned.
