I would like to get a boat cover this year. 2001 Mr. Pike. Use it for some trailering and covering the boat while in a camp ground. Will not be used in the winter.
I can buy the Lund boat cover for approximately $300. Seems a bit high. But then again, I am not really sure how good of a product the Lund boat cover is.
The question is whether I should buy the Lund cover or perhaps something from Cabela's or Bass Pro. I will likely not use the cover a great deal.
Hopefully I can hear from some who have had both.
Thanks.
I have owned both covers and feel the cover from the boat companies have a slightly better fit. However, I feel the quality of covers I have purchased from the catalog companies is as good or higher and the costs were 1/3 to 1/2.

The Lund cover is excellent, tough, durable, and fits well. It is made of material called "Travel-Tuff"
You get what you pay for on covers.

I've got the Lund factory cover on my 1775. It's a great cover. It is almost 10 yrs old now and I've only had to have some of the seems re-sewn. The thread had fallen apart, and literally came apart at the seems. I do not tow with the cover as I have found that the cover causes undue wear on the seats and console while flapping down the road. I did, however, make individual covers to throw over the seats and console under the boat cover to keep it from rubbing.

That all depends on what you want to spend. I bought my first Lund (Pro V 1660)in 98 and had a custom made cover done. It was pricey but it is definitely worth it. Remember the canvas covers? They would rot and rip and you would spend money on them patching or replacing. This cover is made out of a material called Aqua-Lan and it is very durable. I had to keep my rig outside for 2 years and the cover still looks brand new. It does not blow around when trailering and the motor is covered as well. It has locking snap straps stitched in to the cover that loop around the trailer. It was an investment for my rig that I was glad I made. The company is in Wisconsin Rapids--not sure of their name off hand. I can find out if anyone is interested.

Get the Lund cover. I bought a cheap one last year and ended up buying the Lund cover this year. I got the travel cover. My dealer poped in these metal hooks along the sides of my boat. The esge of the cover has a bungy rope around it. You put the cover on and stretch the bungy to the hooks which are every several feet. Its a really nice cover and can even be put on in the water.

Um it may be blasphemy but, Right now at the Aurburn Hills, MI Bass Pro Shops they are unloading there non current NEW boat covers for 50.00 each. You need to contact the Service Dept.-NOT Sales.
Perhaps you could find one there that would fit your boat nicely and for a steal....
Course you may have to peal off the "tracker" name on the sides or never hear the end of it from the gang.
My opinion is that you would be way better off spending a little more to get a custom cover made for your boat. I have had several "factory" covers and feel they are OK for covering the boat in your yard or camp but not very good for going down the road. Most of the dealers I have talked to will sell you a factory cover but recommend a custom cover. It all depends on what your expectations are and how much you are willing to spend. I pull my boat long distances and have not had good luck with factory Lund or Crestiner covers. Good luck on your decision.

In my opinion that Lund cover will be just fine for the limited needs that you have described. I had one on my boat and it was quite adequate. I now have a custom cover and I just love it! It fits OVER my trolling motor, wavewhackers, and has reinforcing at all the right spots, etc. etc.

Mathman,
I would have to cast my vote for the custom cover. I am in the process right now getting one for my 1800 pro-v. $430. The cover I buy is called "Top Gun" and this will be the third straight boat I put one on. I use them all the time, only time not covered is on the water. I keep my boats stored inside and the cover keeps dust and debris out. On the road it keeps the road grime and stones out plus adds to security when you stop for bite to eat. No rubbing on equipment if secured properly. For the money you can't beat them.
Tom,
I would like the name of the company you refer to.

I purchased a Hurricane Cover through Cabelas, they have custom covers for most Lund boats. It was less expensive than the Lund cover and made out of much better material. It was $100.00 cheaper then the Lund cover. It fits my 2000 1800 fisherman w/ bowmount perfect.

We had a custom cover made for our boat at Ace Canvas in West Bend. It fits exactly over everything that sticks up (trolling motor, windshield, and motor. I'm adding a kicker, and they can add a raised part to accomadate for that too. It's excellent quality. It's made out of a material a little lighter than canvas, but it doesn't mold as easily or rot, and it's still heavy, durable, and trailerable. Most custom places will give you a quote if you take your boat in for an estimate. It wasn't that expensive compared to the one from the manufacturer.
Rick, Give me a call- I live in Stevens Point. Have a Lund cover for my '99 Mr. Pike 17, that's never been out of the box. Gregory, 592-4500
