Hello all!
I am NOT looking to start a bash I really would like some honest input from other owners.... I own a ZX2050 with a 250 HPDI on it and have been very happy with the motor. I have had the oil pump update done and everytime I hit the key VAROOM! I know there have been several issues with power heads with these motros but I cant help but think there are happy owners out there also?

I would like to hear from all the HPDI owners good and bad. If you have had problems please let us know what they were and how they were fixed. If you are just plain happy I would like to know that also. I think sometimes all we hear about are the bad things and most people do not seek out advice or have questions when something is working good so I am just interested if there are other happy HPDI owners out there.

Thank you in advance for keeping this on the high road and for any input that you all have~

Take care!

I've had a great warranty experience with Yamaha and am now on my third 250 HPDI powerhead.
This new powerhead makes the other 2 look bad, this one runs like a 300hp motor.
I don't fully understand what they did but Yamaha has got my new engine running great.
Where the other powerheads where maxed this motor is just getting warmed up. Everything is better, holeshot, cruise, topend, it's all better.

I'm optimistically hoping for the best outcome, because there's no more warranty.

Afetr talking to the Dutchman on the phone about his ZX2050 about any likes and dislikes I purchased an 04 with a 250HPDI and have been very happy with both.

Thanks Ducthman as I can't remember calling back and saying thanks for the insights after I bought the rig. CRS I guess. LOL

The HPDI has had plugs and lower unit oil( normal maintenance stuff) and had the oil pump update done.
I have approx. 150-200 hrs and will do the all fuel filters after my last run to LBDN in Nov.

Nothing else has been done to the motor and it has been flawless.
Fires right up at the touch of the key everytime, even in the cold of Nov.
I run Ring Free in every tank and Yamalube injection oil.
I also run a T-8 so no extended trolling with the 250.

Still under warranty until 5/09.

If she goes after that we will see what Yamaha says and if they say go scratch I would rebuild the engine with the Hydro Tech boys with some added HP since they do not make the 25inch model HPDI anymore and keep the rig as I have everything dialed in as I like it.

When was the last PH installed? Just curious.

Last November, install was done by the Yamaha Rep and the motor was finally "initialized" Something that the origination dealer should have done in 2003, That's probably why it runs so much better. So far I'm very pleased :)

I've got an '03 150hpdi and it has some hesitation on take-off, but I'm going to get it in and have it worked on to correct it. I get about 5200rpm max on my rig, but I think it has to do with mounting and prop. Could do better that's for sure, but if I had a choice, I'd have a different brand motor. The rig was at the right price, so I bought it with the hpdi. However if I went new, I'd be going another brand.

Can't complain too much though. It's been pretty good so far.

Why would you guys have these great rigs and put up with marginal engine performance? Your RPM's should be alot higher and if you'd work on that, you'd probably like your engines and boats performance much more. You'd probably get better mileage out of them too if you could plane out at lower RPM's and run more in the power band of the engines design limitations. First thing to do would be to raise the motor up on the transom at least one hole and see what you get for RPM's. Make more adjustments as needed, either by going higher or trying a different prop. Sheesh! 5,000 and 5,200 RPM's is so close to where you want and need to be,,,,Why not optimize your boats to the fullest? Your local dealer will be able to help if you're not sure what to do. I wouldn't be happy with my motor either if it was only running at 90% of design optimum speed.
