: Steering Cable - Help

Safe-T QC single cable tilt helm, 1750 FH, 5 years old.

I have a pop / clunking sound when I turn the helm from one direction to the other and a bit over 1 inch of free play. After the initial noise, the steering is quiet and smooth. I get the noise every change of direction. I removed the cover that houses the cable after it passed through the helm and the cable looks ok.

To remove the steering cable from the helm...

Should I unbolt the helm from the console, release the cable pin and unwind the cable (moving the helm away from the cable) or should I unbolt the steering connection (at the motor) and unwind the helm through the motor tilt tube, so the cable completely enters the steering cable jacket (at the helm end) and then remove the helm?

It appears that I can't push the cable away from the helm and I don't know how much cable sticks out past the cable jacket when the motor is turned all the way...

Thanks

Same thing happened to me. I took it back to the dealership and they replaced the Teleflex helm control with e zero-feedback unit.
