Members, what screen setting do you find best for visibility in DIRECT SUNLIGHT for Lowrance LCX27/28/37/38 units?
Thanks

I have been running the GPS display in Nighttime mode (with Lakemaster map chip) and the sonar display in blue background mode. Visibility of both is very good in direct, bright sunlight.

I play with the backlighting. You change that by momentarily pushing the power button. I believe there is 4 or 5 presets. Beyond that I would have to go fire up the unit and look at what I got it set at. Hmm gives me an excuse to go fishing tomorrow.

How do you set the background to blue?

First, make sure the sonar screen is the active screen if you have dual GPS and sonar on the display. Then,
Press MENU
- select Sonar Features and press ENTER
- select Sonar Chart Mode and press ENTER
- scroll through the mode choices to Blue Background and press ENTER.
Press EXIT and EXIT to return to normal display
Page 87 of the manual.
It's worth playing with the other optional display modes- you may like one of them better- Nighttime mode is interesting..

thanks to your clear instructions I was able to set sonar background to blue on my LCX27c (and tried some of the other options)
In the Map mode, how is Nighttime selected?
To get Night View you have to go into the Screen menu. Press Menu twice and go down to Screen. Press enter and go down to Display Mode and press Enter. Go down to Night View and press enter.

Got it, thanks. Some days my brain works, but not often. Or for long.

Nighttime display mode for GPS makes it easier for me to see depth contour lines on Lakemaster Michigan maps. If you are using a different mapping chip, your results may be different.
The blue background display mode in sonar seems to hide much of the "noise" that I see in the white background display, so I prefer blue. Either blue or white background is very easy to see in daylight- assuming the relative angles of your head, the display and polarized sunglasses aren't blacking out the screen. I find that I need to angle the screen (or my head) just a bit to see the brightest display when I'm wearing my Foster Grants. :-)
I picked up both of these tips from a Doc Sampson post on this forum, so I'm happy to pass them along, but he gets the credit for teaching me.
