: Lousy Lund Company Service

For the better part of two months, my local Lund dealer has been emailing the Lund boat company trying to get the paint codes for my 1996 Lund Tyee 1950. Six emails and absolutely no response from Lund!!!

Today I tried calling the company myself. Stupidly selected phone option #2 (for our "valued retail customers") and was played a recorded message to contact my dealer. Called back and selected phone option #3 (dealer parts & service) and was put on hold for 10 minutes, then was cut off.

After years of owning other boats, I finally moved up to a Lund. Or so I thought. After listening to the frustration of my local dealer in trying to work with Lund and now seeing what Lund calls "customer service", I'm beginning to think that my Tracker was WAAY better than Lund.

No wonder the Lund dealer to the south of Milwaukee, Main Marine in Racine Wisconsin, dropped Lund boats last fall after nearly 30 years of selling Lunds. They said that they just couldn't work with Lund anymore. I'm beginning to understand why.

Any suggestions as to how to get touch up paint for my Lund?

For the record, Lund dropped Main Marine not the other way around. That is fact.

I have never heard of a customer complaint like yours before. layoffs? someone fishing for a reaction?

If this situation is true, try again. Lines can and will be busy from time to time. Ever try getting a hold of Lowrance? You have no idea how long you will be placesd on hold.

The problem is not with Lund boats....
You see lund set up a website specifically for dealers....
www.lunddealerservices.com
and on here they list all the paint codes going back to 1995.

This dealer service website has everything from parts books, paint codes to engineering diagrams. Unfortunately some brain-dead dealers do not bother to get to know the system.

GO back to your dealer and instruct them to become familiar with the GREAT systems lund has in place for keeping customers happy.

your 1996 paint codes....

all are PPG paint codes (standard paint used on lunds)
flame red 4679
black 9000
silver 35830
navy 3497
cranberry sparkle 52057
graphite grey 35831
burgundy/venitian red 74250
sand beige 27724
midnight blue 17045
jewel green 4215
burnt red sparkle 74522

PLEASE ENUSRE YOU HAVE A US made boat and note a canadian made... Canadian made boats use different paint codes, and serial numbers begin with CAN-LXXXXX.

I know the wait is long for Lowrance, but I've always gotten my problem solved with them. Doesn't sound like that is the case here.

Would those paint codes that are listed be the same for a 97 boat?

LOL!
I don't know who you dealer is, but all of that information is available to him with no e-mail, no phone calls. You are mad at the wrong people... he should have all of that on-line, and most of us had annual color charts on paper, too..
If he is that lacking... he could have called another Lund dealer or his Sales Rep. who could explain where to find the info.

Unfortunate about your wasted time and the lack of knowledge of your dealer.

Now you know...that you could have posted that question here and had the answer in one day.

I love it when people say that a dealer dropped companies like Lund and Ranger. Do you really think that any dealer in the right frame of mide would ever dump either one of these companies. Give me a break!!! Who would they pick up in plce of them sylvan, fisher. Let think on our own here. I definatlyt think you have dealer issues and not lund issues. If that is how lund actualy was they wouldnt be one of the most popular boats on the water with probably one of the biggest followings. I would start going to a diff dealer.

Are you a Lund dealer, with a registered log-in? My guess is that is not an "open to the public" website.

I purchased this boat used. Always wanted to own a Lund and, so far in rigging it up, have been impressed with the quality, not only at the surface, but in the places the owner DOESN'T see until you are running wires, installing electronics, etc....

Yes, to some of you loyal Lund devotees, this paint code email string has been going on since mid-May. I've tried to work through the Lund system by first going to the Lund website, contacting the company, being referred to the three closest Lund dealers to my zip code, and then working with two different dealers, both of which have tried to get the paint codes (kindly provided by a guest in this email string) for over two months!!

I suppose that I could believe that this dealer service website wasn't known by one dealer, but two?? Sounds a little fishy.... Both dealers that have tried to assist me are top notch operations. I find it hard to believe that neither know/knew about that dealer service website. Even so, one would think that Lund would reply to dealer emails, if only to direct them to the website.

As to the first poster, the FACT is that Main Marine dropped Lund after selling their boats for 30 years!!, Don't try to rewrite history here. Thank God that Main still sells & services a lot of customers with Johnson/Evinrude/ETEC motors and wasn't willing to succumb to the Brunswick pressure to sell or service only Mercury motors.

Yes, I've also dealt with the incompetent customer no-service idiots at Lowrance. Though frustrating, Lund isn't even CLOSE to Lowrance in terms of giving the one finger salute to it's customers.

Thanks again to the guest who posted the paint codes. I tried to follow the protocols that Lund specifies on their website and when a customer contacts their company. This website was a last resort; though very productive.

I am very happy with my Lund Tyee 1950-what an awesome ride and handling. Still...I kind of worry what would happen if...down the road, I would need major service work, say a new transom.. or a hull repair from Lund. If just getting the paint codes takes this much hassle, I wonder how difficult (impossible) it would be to arrange a major repair? I hope I never have to find out.

Wow. OK. Sorry to hear Main dropped Lund. I was going to drive to Racine next month to look at the Lund Explorer 1825. Main has been a great dealer and has gone way out of their way to take care of me and my current Lund.

But, they must indeed no longer carry Lund. I looked at the Lund site and checked for local dealers. Main no longer shows.

I bet that is why Main added Alumacraft a while back. I know they were upset with Lund after having been a very loyal Lund dealer and were probably thinking about dropping Lund.

Too bad.

You are right. It is rare to drop a good boat line, but...
I actually did drop Ranger last year.

The reasons were personal and complicated.

I too need a paint code if someone can help me. I recently purchased a 2002 1850 Tyee GS (Blue/Pewter)and apparently the PO was not the greatest in the docking skill department and the boat has a few scratches I would like to touch up. Awesome boat otherwise! Thanks for any help you can give me.

Forgot to mention this spring when my Lund Spring promo items came, they had sent the wrong rod holders compared to the ones that came with the boat. Called Lund parts and the gal said she would have the correct one shipped out to my dealer with in the week . My dealer had the new one in just a couple of days. Small experience but a good one.

I love my Lund boat and would not consider any other aluminum boat.

I was a painter at lunds for many years and let me tell you almost anyone with a ppg paint shop around can also get any lund paint code. I do know that some times the boys in the repair shop are buisy wth coffee and other stuff but they are usually very good with there customers. I have personally seen them drop what they are doing and repair someones boat just because they drove up to the shop personally.I believe its time for a new dealer. On the other hand I dont know how much longer they will be answering the phone there either as things are real slow with all the cutbacks and a big layoff coming soon. So good luck

Why wouldnt dealers want to drop Lund considering that they got taking over by a company who is a pain to deal with and has no idea how to help thier dealers make money and has no loyality to anyone. And as far as Lund being a good boat they are but QC has gone completlely down hill sence Brunswick bought it. All people can hope is Irwin buys back Lund so MN can have it's boat back.

Well...that's your take...but here's a reality check.

THE ECONOMY IS BAD!
and,,,,
Ask Frankies how "loyal" Irwin is.

If he was actually loyal he'd not have sold Lund, etc.

Check the stats on Mckenzie or on retail units sold the economy is bad you are right but Brunswicks Brands are Horrible, Lund went from retailing 1681 units in mn in 2005 to 848 is 2008 the only other tin company to do that is was crestliner (brunswick) and tracker (brunswick) alot of people are down but there is a reason Lund is down and it has ALOT to do with alot of other things besides Economy.

Those sound like quarterly numbers in the USA, not annual.

I filled out a paint color request online at www.paintscratch.com and they added the Lund red to their order form. So if you ever need Lund touch up paint this is an excellent site and they will add missing colors upon request.

I think others in this thread have referenced this site and I thank them for steering people to it.

I also tried the valued cust. phone con. I had a question on transom angle to hook up a fishfinder. After feeling like a rat (stupid rat) in a maze I gave up. Never again. This boat was a toss up between Alumacraft and Lund. I will not make the same mistake again. It does not matter to me how good the boat may or may not be if a company can not or will not stand behind it they have forever lost consideration in future boat buying. Bye Bye Lund

Just had the carpet in my 2002 1800 Fishermen replaced with vinyl flooring. I was quoted a price to cut around the helm stations to reduce the labor hours. I dropped off the boat at the factory on Monday picked it up on Thrusday that same week.

The factory went and replaced all my flooring with new wood, they removed the helm stations instead of cutting around them, re-routed my M-band antenna cable, replaced two missing stops, added backing to the floor brackets for a more robust aplication and did this at no extra cost to me.

The service person said we qouted you a price and my group thought it was important to go that extra step to make the upgrades.

My experience with the Lund factory has been nothing short of excellent!

Thank you Tammy, Robin and the service crew at Lund!!

Great job,

Mike from Rush Lake

A Lund dealer will get you paint or paint codes quickly if you give them the hull number off your boat. Also I highly recommend www.paintscratch.com (http://www.paintscratch.com) for paint as they were quick and efficient in helping me get my paint that I couldn't find locally.
