hi all,

has anyone else had a problem with lowrance head units turning themselves on? i dock my boat so i don't like to turn the circuit breaker off when docked in case the bilge pumps need to turn on. when i went to start the boat the other day the battery was dead. i thought that odd until i noticed my 3500c turn itself on about 5 times in the period of half an hour. if i'm not mistaken i think i had this problem when i first got the boat and had the unit replaced. i wonder what my options are now that i've had the unit a few years (got the boat and all electronics new in 2005)? i'm guessing it must be a faulty keypad - anyone else seeing this?

thanks,
boneman

I have a Lowrance X97 (can't remember exact model #) that I can't turn off. I have to pull the fuse. I'm hoping that this method of turning it off doesn't cause any additional problems. But yes, I believe my problem is with a faulty keypad.

Has anyone else had this problem. Is it the keypad?

I have a 3500c and not had the issue, but I have all my electronics wired through my accessory switch so the the antenna isn't drawing down my battery. That way I don't leave anything on by accident.

If you dock your boat the bilge pumps should be wired direct and you should turn off your batteries. Even if you don't turn off batteries you should wire your pumps direct. Problems like you mentioned will kill your batteries before you notice. Worst case you will have enough charge to start the boat, run to a fishing spot, then after fishing boat won't start. I've learned the hard way.

I had the same problem with a Garmin unit. And it was a faulty key pad.

thanks guys. i've called lowrance and they are willing to take the unit back under warranty - they suspect a faulty keypad.
