I am helping a friend find a new/used F115 Yamaha for his 17.5' Polarkraft. He found a 25" motor... We have had mixed opinions about getting it mounted. One dealer said, no problem just get a "filler/bracket" made up and mount it... Another said... "forget it"... angles on the transom will be wrong and the needed support won't be there, etc...

Anybody have a solid answer... I'll even listen to reasoned opinions and experiences.... Thanks

Jackplate?

Forget it. There are plenty of correct motors out there to buy instead of wrestling with this and maybe never get it right. A jack plate could work but then you are spending a good chunk of money for that as well. Get the correct motor instead.

hg,
If you want to use the motor on the boat, due to price etc. pick up a jackplate with a 10 inch lift. Get one with a short setback and you will be good to go.

It is likely that you will have to change out your steering cable, and possibly the exit point of your steering cable as well. That is, because with the motor lifted several inches, the steering angles will be wrong with the existing cable and exit position.

Take care

I agree with KP.
There are plenty of motors the right length out there.

Thanks, I'll suggest he take a pass... If the price is really great... I may have him look into jackplates.... But, don't think that will be the case...
