I was going over my schedule and looked at where I will be fishing this summer and decided to post this here. Leech Lake, Devil's Lake, Saginaw Bay, Lake Winnebago will be the tourney spots for me this year. What do you guys and gals think will be the winning technique at each of these events. I kind of have an idea as to how I will fish them, but I am always curious to hear what others think. Especially the locals on each body of water. If you really have a good secret, you can always email me it to me! ;) Have fun! Good fishing and don't forget to shoot the puck! Mike Peluso #82

A safe bet on DL may be plugging up in the windy woods?
Possibly flipping weed guard jigs or slip-shotting guarded floaters in the same type areas is the chill is on?
The bigger numbers have traditionally came on such tactics at DL.
But what do I know Eh, might just be wana-be pipe dreams talking again?
;)

Yeah, I guess I must have hit some button that got me registered, or somethin'. It says I did that two weeks ago...I dunno. This fishing get's more complicated all the time. lol Guess I got hollered at enough about it so it happened.
Do a search on Amazon, in the 'outdoors and nature' section for a bookd called "Thirty Years on the Big Lake, Memoirs of a Fishing Guide". Might be interesting to ya.
Steve, The author of that book is listed as Joe Fellegy, is that your pen name? I see Joe also wrote a book in 1973 named Walleyes, and Walleye Fishing.
The book sounds like it would be a good read.
Mike - Have you fished Winnebago much. I live very close and consider Bago my home water. Last year in June we really couldn't miss. Troling the mud and longlineing reefs worked well for us in in the tournements. We also had fun pitching jigs and leeches in the weeds in 2-3 fow. Everything I see says that this year will be even better. It will taks some serious weights to win this year.
Good Luck

The books are authored by my older brother Joe. The book in '73 was the first of it's kind on walleyes. Of course, that was many fishing innovations ago, so the book lacks current philosophies but IS interesting reading and includes walleye biology to fish recipes. A good mix from the "old days". The latest read is an overview of how 'we' and our fishing history evolved and the thought processing that took place along the way, and a few unique experiences that happened over the years including storms, guiding client characters etc. Tells about how we did it in the pre-GPS days.

I have fished Bago a couple of times and had a tournament there a couple years ago. I did catch fish a variety of different ways and the river treated me well. I suppose it would since I jigged it like I would back on the Missouri River in Bismarck. I am looking forward to heading back to this water. Should be fun! PAWALLEYE, I still have your judge ruler. It is safe and sound in the my fishing room in the basement. I guess I will have to get a new one this year. Actually, I will have to get two since I have a Lund now as well as a Triton. Sorry S.F. I chickened out and bought a 1900 with the set back console. I will still run it like a tiller though ;). Good fishing and don't forget to shoot the puck. Mike Peluso #82
I grew up on Bago fishing with dad and grandpa since age 3. The mud bite will get you the average size fish for the most part but is good to fill out the limit. For the larger eyes I would longline the reefs / reef edges. If the wind is from the SE to ENE try in close to the Neenah landing / swiming pool at Rec. Park. The waves coming into the rocks stir up some good action. Have a good anchor handy. If your motor fails you don't want to get blown in on those rocks. My favorite areas are near Blackbird and the largest eye I've taken from Bago (have to brag sometime) was 13 3/4lbs.

Mike,
Just curious what kind of setup you have on the 1900. I run the 1800 and was curious how you like the set back consule?

I fished out of the 1900's a few times with the Glorvigens and really like the fishability of the boat. It allows you to run it like a tiller if you want. I like that part of it a lot. Another nice thing with the console towards the back it gives you a better ride, although not as good as the 2025 but not bad either. You also have a ton of room up front in these boats for tackle and coolers etc. All around, I think it is an excellent fishing boat! Mike Peluso #82
