My search for a boat is on again....

Is an 1850 Tyee underpowered with a 130 Hp HOnda? I was looking for a 150 but there are not a lot or used boats (tyee's or Fisherman Models) out there with a 150 HP.

I have an 1800 Fisherman with a 135 Opti and am very satisfied. The Tyee is a bit heavier and the Honda a bit slower than an Opti but I would guess you'll see the low 40's. Mine get's up on plane easliy so I would expect you'll be fine. On the other hand, if your expecting something approaching 50 mph then look for a 175.

i've got a 1850 fisherman with a 150 and im glad i got that instead of a 135 ill get about 48mph with 3 people and 3/4 tank of gas

If you get that boat with a 130hp. Honda you will be disappointed. That motor is a dog. They run great and are reliable as heck but don't plan on the boat planing out well.

SO the Honda is a dog or is it because its a four stroke?

HOw is the Yamaha compared to the HOnda?

Its the 130 thats a dog.

Its an older motor, they now make a 135 and a 150.

I had a 130 Honda on a 1700 fisherman, it is a dog. It is reliable and great on gas but never let anyone tell you that it is fast or anything of that sort.

Is there any way you could try it out? The amount of power a boat needs is such a personal thing I think it's difficult to get advice in a forum like this. Everyone will give you their opinion and mean well but they may be looking for something your not. For example, your earlier post about an 1800 Fisherman and a 115 brought up a number of folks who were happy with theirs and a number that would not want one.....all a matter of personal likes and dislikes. The Honda 130 does have a reputation for being a dog but likely it's not worse than a 115 (probably better) and it may fit your needs well. I don't own one and am not trying to sell anyone on it but it might be worth your time to try it in the water. If it's a good deal and fits your needs then that's all that may matter. There will also be advice about resale.....all the research I've done in buying a used boat tells me that resale is tied pretty directly to the original cost.....i.e. if you spend more up front to get a bigger motor you'll get more when you sell it......spend less and you'll get less. (The fact that the 1800 with a 115 sold quickly might be proof of that)

I have an 1850 Tyee and Yamaha F150 - performance is OK, but not great.

I can run 42-44 GPS. Next time I will max up!

I have an 1800 fisherman with a 150 Verado and it runs 50 mph by gps. Another guy has the same boat with a 175 Verado and he run 57 mph at WOT. My brother has the 1700 Fisherman with a 135 Verado and he claims to get 54 mph with it.

I have a 1850 Tyee and I agree its a little heavier. I have a 175 opti and I have no problems with my big butt in it LOL but i could see an issue if the boat is loaded and that motor is really a dog taking sometime to plane. was wondering if prop options could help the motor though? I know even a 135 opti should pull the 1850 fine based on riding in a 1750 with one. Just a thought. See if you can take it for a ride.
