I have a 6hp johnson that I use as a kicker. Mod. J6RLEUC. Built in 1996. Engine has 3 hour on it. I took it out of the box. Looking for a lower pitch prop. Current prop is 8.5 dia x 9.0 pitch. I know OMC made a 6hp and 8hp with 25 inch shaft for sailboats. They may have used the same lower unit and a lower pitch prop to push the weight. Help. Where do I look?
Thanks, Tom

OMC called it a Sail prop. The box I have from mine shows a part # of 392183, which is a 9-1/4"dia x 6-1/2"pitch 3-blade, for the 6-8hp 2 stroke 2 cylinder motors, that use a "pin" drive. If you Google OMC 392183 you'll find some.

Thanks for the help. Recieved the prop today. Have to modify the Macs river runner or remove to use it.
See you use the Racor water seperating filter on the Optimax. Makes sense to me. I have a 115 optimax with about three hours on it. Mercs official position is that the filter is a "potential fuel restriction". Has it worked ok? With the gas that we have to use laced with ethanol the filter couldn't hurt. Do you still use additives like sea-foam or startron.
My dealer said to use stabilizer and Quickleen all the time. He also recommended using Mercs Premium Plus, not Optimax/DFI oil. ??
Next question. How to trail the 6hp Johnson. It needs more ground clearance. Have never used a transom saver. I am afraid that the engine will bounce off the tilt lock that I'm not supposed to be using for this.
Keep in touch.
Thanks again!! Tom ( Ottawa, IL)

Jenset,
I mentioned in a previous post that I trailer my manual start 8hp T8 by partially tilting it and using a bungee cord to sorta keep it pulled down to the trailer. I hook one end to the loop on my trailer that is used for the boat-to-trailer strap, wrap the cord around the skeg/prop area and hook the free end to the same loop on the trailer. This keeps the motor from flopping when hitting bumps, and will allow the motor to move up some if it hits an obstruction.
