I have a 23' Proline, with 200 ETEC and a 9.9 BRP
I had the dealer install a EZ steer bracket connecting the back of each motor.
I have had nothing but trouble with this method.
My kicker motor is on a panther lift, and sits about 8 inches back from my 200 hp.
does anyone have any fixes or other setups to make this steer better?
Thanks

I used one for three years. Once they are adjusted they do work well if the tension is set right. It did come out a few times and yeas tricky getting it back on in the water in waves was not fun.
I went ahead and improved it by Adding an Auto pilot TR1 and was able to take off the EZ Steer and the TrollMaster off. So thats a better fix having an auto pilot on the Kicker.

The EZ steer keeps coming apart, and I can't get the clamps on either motor to stay in place.
I tighten, and re-tighten and it keeps coming apart. I do realize my motors are off set. It seems the older EZ steers were better quality a few years back.
These appear to be made with cheaper material???

Im not really sure about that. Mine was a older one.
Have you tried contacting the manufacturer about your issues?

No question the Panther T-4. I've been using it for the last 2 yrs and it is nothing less than awesome. I also bought the wireless remote.
The key difference is that installation is easy and the system is very simple and fast. The only draw back for a boat like yours is the lack of an auto pilot but, the cost and simplicity make up for it.
Marinetech is the parent company to look them up online.
Oh and , Yes I did buy it, so this isn't an paid endorsement.

I've got the Panther Aux Steering kit on my 619. Works great. (225 Verado, 9.9 Pro Kicker.)

There is a limiting strap that should have been installed on your EZ-Steer. I will look up the Part# for you here soon.

Back about 10-15 years ago, during the salmon frenzy on Sakakawea, guys with 24' and longer sportfishermen used a remote stick steering like those on crappie boats. Totally separate from the primary steering of the boat, which was often a rudder behind the in board's prop. Some with I/O drives used that system as well.
