: Boat keeps dying....

This is long so I am going to try and sum up.

Opened cabin up in May, battery of 5 yrs dead so I bought a new one.
June came around and the boat/motor worked great.
July came and my cable for the foot control tilt/trim had corroded so I had to have that fixed right away. Once this was "fixed", battery last 2 days at most then goes completely dead. Took battery back the 2nd time and was told it was a bad battery, which was replaced at no cost. Put new battery in and went home.

Came up in August to have the battery completely dead while being stored.

The tech at the marina said they ran every possible "check" and nothing was draining the battery nor was it showing a bad "rectifier". When I run the boat it seems to actually drain the battery and not charge, but here is the funny thing. Motor will beep as a warning before it dies. If I shut off, I cannot start. If I don't shut off, I can basically run for quite a while. If I touch the foot trim - dies right away.

Wouldn't this indicate it is the foot trim? The tech pulled the wires and sottered (sp?) them together to fix it a few months back so I'm not sure what could have happened, however I am no expert.

Motor is '03 Merc 4-stroke 60HP. Seems rather odd I have had zero problems and once this was fixed, everything started happening.

The tech is working on it now and I am hoping once he checks these connections and wires we can get to the bottom of this. I really like the dealership and trust their work. Not trying to second guess, just hoping to tap into some of the expertise on this site.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

The problem is its not charging and while the engine is running its drawing power from the battery to run the ignition, once the battery gets low enough, hitting the trim will draw the battery voltage down to the point the ignition does not have enough voltage to work and it quits. Get the charging system working and your good to go. On the older motors you had a magneto ignition and it didn't need battery power to run but today with solid state ignition, you need power.

Check to see if there is a fuse on the motor or a wire that got pulled loose when the guy was changing the cable.

Thanks for the idea. I will certainly pass it along if the dealer doesn't figure it out.

Turns out I had a blown fuse in the powerhead which kep the battery from being recharged. Marina replaced the fuse and said everything tested out fine. Have to wait and see, but wanted to give an update.

Thanks for the help.

Maybe it's Hindi;

It dies - reincrnated.

Dies - reincarnated.

Dies - reincarnated. . . maybe it will soon find Nervana.
