I just got back from Gander Mountain with my second Lee Production pot. The first one I bought leaked lead out the bottom of the pot right around the spout. When I plugged this new one in I put about five pounds of lead shot in it and turned it on mid range heat. After about thirty minutes it started to leak from around the top of the spout and all five pounds of hot lead ran out. Does anyone have any experience with Lee lead pots? am I doing something stupid or are their products just really poor.
Thanks for any help

This is normal. Take a screw driver and turn the shaft back and forth that goes into the spout a few times. Firing it up is the worst, and you schould always have a pie pan underneath until your at full temp.

After that, enjoy your molds! Its alot of fun.

I second that. It didn't take me long to figure out what the slot was for on the cool end. Now I always keep the trusty screw driver near by. The pot works great for weighting pinewood derby cars also.

Mine leaked all the time. I finally plugged the hole, use it to melt the lead only, and, dip the melted lead out with a laddle. I find this a lot easier, than messing with the leaking pot....redrnger

Another hint is to use pure lead. If you use road lead, or dirty lead, it will leak more often. The garbage gets clogged in the spout.

Second that on the pine wood derby car!! Worked great!

Picked ours up this winter. Used to use the old handled hot pot. The new LEE pot works GREAT. Use clean lead or melt it in a cast pot and skim it before using it in the LEE pot. Also turn the slotted screw like others have mentioned.

We poured about 85 pounds of lead jigs this winter and had zero problems!
