Well made the 20+ mile run sat. for the steel and had a very depressing day only catching 1, $150.00 walleye. Worked over the 54-54 to 52-52 area and trolled all the way into the 46 line with zero hookups to show for it. We had 4 boats out there working over a large area and only 1 steelhead was hooked and boated. This area has alwalys produced over the last 5-6 years throughout the whole month of august for us, but not this trip. Some of the best marks ive seen out there whether it was steel, walleye or trash fish 40-50ft down and tons of bait clouds. Starting to worry about the fishery as well 2004,2005 great fishing off lorain and avon. 2006 was good but a short window. 2007 wasnt too good with the tourney day beiing our best off lorain but the "hole" produced' great numbers. 2008 go 12 for 15 accidentaly the 12,13,14th of june in 45-50ft of water. Make a couple of runs out past the 40 line during prime time in july, with very poor results. Is this just us or are some of you guys having better success, our seeing the same pattern. If anything we will be back next weekend off Lorain, too take out some revenge and frustration on the walleye.

I am with you 100% about the offshore Ohio side for the steelies being in trouble. Gotta put up a fence ( don't take that literally) to stop them from heading to Canada so that they can reap the benefits of our stocking program. You are right on with the results from past years. **** shame that we can't stop them from jumping the line. Only consolation is that the school of eyes off Lorain is off the charts and very easy pickins' If you need some help for the eyes, contact me through my website at erietherapycharters.com

No one has a theory as to why the fish have jumped the border early last year, and almost immediatey this year. I had five great years of steelie fishing out of Lorain before the last two down years. It's been depressing. Wheatley was terrific again today (sorry Ray), and the fish are running bigger there. Had one at 13.1 among several other nice fish.

Too bad we can't put an electric aquatic fence like a yard dog barrier !!!! I decided three years ago my boat had to jump the fence too. Wheatley should still have two more good weeks I hope.

After a slow morning of tolling for some eyes at the 36-14,16 decided to troll norheast east to try to find some actve fish. When we hit the 37-11.5 line all heck broke loose. A terribe day turned into a good day. Went 8 for 8 in alittle over an hour on the steel. Go figure, the limit dropped from 5 to 2 today "mon", or it would of really been on. Decided it was best, to just pull the rods and get out of there after our limit instead of fun fishing, due to the survival rate on catch and release. Glad to hear thr drags come alive once again. Ray, dont know if you were out, but tried to get you on the radio. Dipseys 60,75,125 back. 2 came on 40 jets 150 back. 6 fish were between 6 1/2-8lbs. 37,37.5-- 11.5,11 line. 1 other boat there.

Way to go Slayin. Did you happen to have a temperature probe or know the temperature where you were fishing? The fish left Wheatley due to warm water temps (69 degrees down to 65 ft); so it's really unusual the fish were at 37/11.

I fished Wheatley on Saturday and got skunked for three hours, and then made the 32 mile run northeast to Erieau. The steel were still around and active in Erieau at the 08/48; but they were 55-60 ft down in 75 fow. Caught 15 steelies, and about the same number of eyes with the walleyes averaging about 5 lbs.

Let's hope the steelies stay around Lorain.

Nice job out there ! I fished for eyes on Sat, tubing with the kids on Sun, and golfed and cookout on Mon. Glad you had a chance to hear the "singin' reels" again. I guess I will just hope for the best next year with the chrome and concentrate on finding the hiding place for the big eyes before the Hawgfest.

Hawkeye, we dont have a temp. probe and our fishfinder also took a dump last fri. If im thinking right its only around 51-54ft of water around there. I know kinda unusual.
