I saw some interest in Gobie like lures in the fishing report section of walleye central and I thought I would be politically correct and put this topic in the general discussion section. Coincidentially, my son and I ran into a prominent bass fisherman at the Indianapolis show by the name of Kevin Van Dam. My son and I fish the great lakes and expressed an interest in Kevin's favorite lures for smallies on lake michigan. Now, I know Kevin is well compensated by Strike King, but he suggested we try Kevin VanDam's Pro Model Tube. It is listed on page 179 of the Bass Pro Shop Master Catalogue 2002. Color 91 is goby and Kevin was nice enough to give my son a package of these. They really match the color of the gobie and have all that salt and scent in them. Kevin insists they will catch smallies. He also suggested color #93 which is natural alewife and again is very realistic looking. I hope this information helps you. My son and I are chomping at the bit to get spring here so we can get out to the warm water discharges and stop chasing cohos and substitute smallies for the cohos.
