Ed,
Was wondering what kind of reels you use for Catfishing on the Red.
I have a couple Quantum Big Irons that I love but they don't make them anymore.A buddy of mine is looking for a heavy rig and suggestions? Thanks

A ABU GARCIA 6500-C3 rigged on a Berkley Glowstick 8' will do the job well.

Or, if your serious, and just want to get'r done now instead of upgrading reels latter on. Than go with the new ABU GARCIA 7000-C3i. It also is a heavy hitter for toothy critters like Musky. Again the Berkley GlowStick will serve you well. Works well for channels or if you decide to go for Flathead on the Minnesota River.

If you wish to upgrade the rods, look at Big Jim Moyers "Boss" rods. Twice as much as the $39 Glowstick, yet worth it. Jim has a set of 3 made for different conditions. Search the net and you can find where to order them.

A very good off the shelf combo can be found from Bass Pro in the Pete Maina Signature Series Musky combo's...yup..I said Muskie combo. My top pick for an off the shelf built combo. Used a couple for years, caught tons of kitty's with them.

PMX3000MH Reel with a PMX80HT-T rod...about $140....A great catfish combo. A great value too.

Hope this is of some help.

I mainly fish for big flathead on the Missouri River. So far my gear is holding up well but will pass this along to my buddy.
I will check out the Glowtip rods.I have the Cabelas King Kat rods now.
