: My Lowrance flashing problem solved

I, like so many others, had the flashing 1.9' intermittently showing up on my LMS 520C.
I upgraded software to 2.3, and that didnt help. The flashing happened over any depth from 5' to 40', and it would start flashing for no reason, and then start working correctly for no reason. And this was while sitting at anchor. Very frustrating to say the least.

So I asked my boat dealer, and they knew about the problem too, and said to try a new transducer, that it had resolved all of the problems they'd seen so far. My old transducer was over a year old and likely off of warranty, but they gave me a new one and said they'd be hitting up Lowrance in the fall with all the old faulty ones they replaced for some compensation (in a word, the new ducer cost me nothing)

I switched it out (pain in the butt to fish the cable thru everything), and have tried it out 6 times, and it has worked perfctly every time....what a relief! Looks like my problem is solved. Now I'm anxiously awaiting the deals likely coming on a new 37C or 112C this fall........

Uzzi,

How many pins on the plug end did your old transducer have and how many does your new one have?

My boats up at the lake right now. Wont be going up till the weekend. I know the little sticker on the ducer had the same part number/description as the old one.

I can get that info, but I wont be able to post until Monday morning my findings.

It would be interesting to see how many pins on your new transducer. Let us know if you can when you get back.

Thanks!

Well, I ordered my dad an Eagle Fish Elite 480 last year and he had the same problem to the point this year that it souldn't read a depth at all! After talking with lowrance I sent in the old head unit and low and behold a new one showed up today. I still think it's the transducer which is what you found the problem to be but I garentee if the new head unit doesn't work I'll be on the phone with lowrance again for a new transducer!

I'll count the pins when I get back to the lake and post here
My old one has 7 metal pins
I'm curious why the pin count would make a difference, and why they'd make some with more or less pins than others?
