Have any of you come up with an off the shelf container (pop bottle, platic something) that can be used on calm inland lakes as a planer board instead
of the big, bulky and expensive commercial ones. All the plans I see are 2x8`s with theaded rod...... I just want a simple small thing.

I`m just trying to get a rapala away from the boat a little. I`m going to try and glue a 2inch thick styrofoam piece to a 2x4 cut with a 30 degree compound angle and screw a release onto the back. It may be a flop but I`ll see how it works.

If you have a design that works I`d appreciate the info. i`ll let you know if mine works.

thanks

Google "Off Shore" planer boards or "Church Tackle" planer boards. Two great options for small, easy to use and effective in-line planer boards..These two products are proven..

I would agree with the last two posts. When you say bulky I have to think you are refering to the larger mast type, not the inlines. I can't imagine anything made out of wood would weigh less. As to the price, they do get up a bit after you get done with add-ons. There isn't much about trolling that doesn't get at least a little expensive...more so if you end up buying your equipment twice because of being unhappy with what you start with. Maybe start with just two.

Have not tried the little TX-6 myself but is rather inexpensive, as mentioned. Looks like it would work real well at electric TM speeds with light offerings. Have considered getting one or two several times.

trapper, bit the bullet and go spend a couple bucks on a planer board instead of trying to jury rig something that might work and might not.
