Capsized!

Had an accident last week and capsized my boat. All is well, however, I have a brand new Lowrance 520C on the dash. The boat was upside down for an hour or so. I have not recovered the boat from the salvage company yet but I know the unit wasn't physically damaged, just was under water for a while. My question is will the 520c still work?

Dry it out before you turn it on! It should be fine.

The best you can do is let it dry, like mentioned above. I've soaked electronics, camera, handheld gps, phones, etc. Camera was shot, phones I've about a 50/50 rating, handheld was fine. But they weren't submerged for an hour either.
Let it dry out and cross your fingers...and let us know either way.

Well, I just got the boat back from the salvage yard. I checked the Lowrance and it's still full of water. Looks like it's DOA.

Here's a quote from the manual for your depthfinder:
"Case size: .........................5.4" H x 6.9" W x 3.4" D (13.8 x 17.6 x 8.6
cm); sealed and waterproof; suitable for saltwater
use."
If your 520C is full of water, either the case was damaged or you should ask Lowrance for a warranty replacement.

Thanks, I'll give it a try but I'm thinking submerged under water for a couple of hours might not be considered normal use?

Lowrance says "waterproof", not "water resistant". Unless the water seal was broken, it should not leak.

Tell them exactly what happened and give Lowrance a chance to come through. You might be surprised. I've had a couple such surprises.

With all the negative talk on forums about Lowrance and else where they might suprise you.

Finally got around to contacting Lowrance. I was honest about what happened to my unit. They sent me a document detailing the various levels of "water proof". My unit was listed as being water proof up to 30 minutes at less than 1 meter deep. My unit was under water for at least 2 hours. They ended up sending me a new unit for $199.00. I guess I can't really ask for more then that,
sounds like a good deal to me
I have always had good luck with lowrance and lowrance customer service

I had my 520c under water for 22 hours. Didn't even fog up the screen. You had a bad unit.
