Anyone had the droops on the tail . It is a bit swollen at the base. About a week into it. Will Ibuprofen or another anti inflammatory work?

Bee sting that makes it painful to lift or wag the tail?
You could introduce him to mudpuppy's kid mentioned in the general discussion forum

FIRST, DO NOT -- REPEAT NOT -- GIVE YOUR DOG IBU-PROFEN. IT IS POISON TO A DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Second, yes, my female Lab has had "drop tail". The vet told me that it is a condition typically brought on by a very wet (and therefore heavier than usual) tail which taxes the muscles back there. That is exactly what triggered it in my dog. In effect, it was a strained muscle.
The vet said to give the dog an ASCRIPTIN (which is the "best" version of a buffered aspirin) to start with and then give another several hours later (and again in a couple hours if needed). The Ascriptin is an anti-inflammatory and pain killer. Typically the drop-tail went away after 2 days or so.

That sounds like "cold water tail", which is relatively common in labs. It can happen after swimming, bathing or even a hard day's tail wagging. It is painful, but most dogs return to normal in a few days. A vet can prescribe an anti-inflammatory drug to ease the pain and speed the healing process.

My guess is your dog has a infected anal gland, My 8.5 yr old lab had this very same problem a few months back. No wagging in tail and swelling at base, took him to vet, vet cleaned out glands, gave dog antibiotic of some type, and he was better next day. Doc said he probably wouldn't even need antibiotic just a good cleaning but we gave antibiotic anyways.

Our 8 year old canine developed this tail drop while being watched by a friend . After reading this website gave him one quarter of a Bufferin twice daily on the second day his tailed popped upright with no recuurnce . Three tiny doses of Bufferin cured him . Etiology ? Glad I went on this site .
