Trying to set up a summer trip for my family to Wisconsin or eastern Minnesota. We will have kids of assorted ages along. Decent fishing is a requirement of course, though we like to water ski/tube, and swim at a sandy beach if available. Other activities in the area would be a plus. Accomadations need to affordable, cottages with kitchens would be fine. Any suggestions?

Depending on the distance you plan to travel, Lake Vermillion is a great choice, adults can fish walkleye, smallies, or muskie, pan fish abound, Life of riley resort at cook,mn is a super family resort. Ask for Rock or Lee, they'll take great care of you! Happy fishing!!:+

The ultimate "family/fishing" area in Minnesota is the Brainerd area.
Gull Lake and surrounding area, offers the greatest diversity in this regard. Contact Brainerd Lakes Area Chamber.

I am partial to this area because it is where I grew up, but it is still excellent fishing. Check the water level and the fishing, but they have a great beach for the family and nice accomodations.

First, I have to agree 100% with the suggestion of the Brainerd Lakes area...Gull, Long, Pelican, etc are all fantastic fishing opportunities. And, you can find family style resorts everywhere...I am very familiar with Cold Spring Resort on Upper Gull (a part of the Gull Chain...), there are also some very nice resorts on Gull and on Margaret...Finally, the folks who run Eagle's Nest on the Cullen Chain have an excellent family oriented resort. Check with the Nisswa Chamber of Commerce (any search engine) for more help in locating in a resort.

Next, I can strongly suggest any of the resorts on Nelson Lake (follow the Hayward Lakes area links)... In particular, Everson's Nelson Lake Lodge...very good lake and very good resort (priced right also)...Nelson and some of the surrounding lakes are "well kept secrets" and you are only a short (less than an hour) from dozens of other fantastic lakes...You can get good suggestions from the folks at the resort...or contact me for more deatiled info...

Hope I helped...

I agree. Look for "Fin and Feather" or "Breezy Point". The first is probably more geared towards what you want. My family went there for years when I was young. To tell you the truth though, I haven't been back for quite some time. Better check into this...

Breezy point is a little more....high class???? It offers great golf, and various ski and, I will say it even though I hate them, JET SKI'S to rent. Very nice though.
